I just started temping this month and ever since then ive been having issues sleeping. I have been waking up a ton throughout the night. I know that a few of the days i havent gotten the "required 3 hours" of sleep in a row. When i wake up i dont always move, but im awake and can go right back to sleep. Im scared that im not going to have an accurate look with all this waking. This temping is frustrating enough as it is with my work schedule, i just dont want to be doing this for nothing.

If I were you, I would stick with it for a bit longer to see if it will work for you. Basically, if you can see a pattern with your chart, then it is working. Maybe your temps won't be perfect, but I find that hard to do in any situation. Life happens, there are nights when you don't sleep and wake up, etc. Just do your best and make notes in the notes section of each day so you remember. I wake up from time to time, but can still see a clear shift in my charts. GL!

I would say to finish out the cycle. You may be subconsciously stressing about it and waking yourself up. Once you have been doing this a while it might not be so stressful and you might start sleeping better again. Kind of like if you are stressing about something important the next day and keep waking up thinking your going to be late or sleep through your alarm clock or something... KWIM??

You might also find that the frequent waking doesn't matter much. I started temping again when my DS was still waking frequently through the night, and once he started to sleep through the night, I kept waking waiting for HIM to wake... Anyway, I noticed that it didn't matter much what time I took my temp and I just took my temp whenever I woke up and each time I woke up and saved the one I thought was probably most accurate. Good luck!

Oh, and I've also noticed that my temps get pretty erradic the first week or so of my cycle, then start to even out closer to O.

I agree with Jessica. Take a look at my chart: 203fcc Ovulation Charts

I am regularly up through the night several times, only a few of those temps were taken with at least 3 hours of solid sleep. A few of them I'd even been awake quite a bit because of trouble sleeping but I took the advice of some of the ladies here and committed myself to taking my temp at the same time every morning regardless and just noting the circumstances in the notes section. You can see pre-O that there are a lot of missing temps and that's because I deleted them. I'd been taking them all over the place time wise, whenever I got the most sleep. For me, my temp at 2:30 and my temp at 4:30 are way different regardless of sleep or lack thereof so my chart was all over the place. Since I asked here about it and started forcing myself to take my temp at the same time you can at least see a distinct shift .. a very distinct one .. despite the fact that for most of those temps I was at least up 2 times and nursed or else had been up 4 times, nursed, spoke to someone, couldn't get back to sleep and had a wrestling match with the blankets.

So, personally, I say don't give up and don't stress over a little waking through the night.

Last cycle, for some reason I was sleeping really restlessly...I'm sure I rarely slept an entire 3 hour stretch at a time for most of the cycle. I would just randomly take my temp at like 3 am (or whenever) if I knew I had slept a decent stretch before that. Sometimes, like the above post, I would take it several times and just record whichever temp seemed most likely to be accurate.

BUT my chart was pretty easy to interpret and it showed a clear thermal shift that matched up with my CM, so I'm guessing it might not have mattered a whole lot.

Thanks ladies.
How do i know that i have a "pattern"?
Also when i wake up i do move a little bit( my head/arms) to reach my alarm and thermometer... is that going to hurt my accuracy of my temps?
