So I'm on day 2 of temping. What a pain in the rear.

If I wake up to go to the bathroom at 4 or tend to my 2 year old and go back to sleep and temp at 7:00 is that ok? Is it better to temp earlier than later? Like should I temp at 4am rather than 7?

How do you BTDT moms lay there waiting for that dang thing to beep before dealing with a crying baby/toddler?

I had some weird dreams last night (fooling around with charlie sheen? eww) but it was still the first thing I thought about when waking up. So that's good I guess.

So correct me if I'm wrong but I'm looking for my temp to go up a degree or two which would indicate ovulation? So the day after ovulation is the day I find out I ovulated?

If it can take a full 24 hours am I missing the window - should I continue to use OPK's to have a heads up and expect to pinpoint the peak fertile time?

Do many of you both temp and use OPK's?

Last 3 cycles I started BD before and when I got a + OPK (usually only + for 24 hours) and by the night after I'd be burned out. I thought if I have soldiers waiting at the gate that's good. But apparently it's best to BD the day of and 2 days after ovulation rather than before - is that correct?

Wow I miss NTNP

Yeah... Full on TTC can be a bit of work. It's not quite as easy as our Health Teachers would have us think.

I use OPKs along with Charting. Generally, you'll get a + 24-36 hours prior to ovulation. I tend to O the same day as a +, so that can happen too. I start my OPKs on CD 10 and carry on either until I get a + or until my thermal shift.

Yes, a jump in temp or "thermal shift" followed by at least 2 more high temps will be your confirmation that ovulation has occurred. This is why temps alone are not tremendously helpful prior to O, unless you happen to be one of the lucky ladies who get a temp drop leading up to O.

This is where cervical mucus and such help to round out the story. As you progress through your cycle, you will see your cervical mucus change from Dry to Sticky to Creamy to Watery and possibly, hopefully, eventually to Eggwhite. The closer you get to Eggwhite or EWCM, the closer you can be sure you are to actual ovulation.

I know it seems like a lot and can seem overwhelming... but take each day one step at a time and hit us with all the questions you've got. We were all new at this at one point... and the only way we learned was because someone else took the time to explain it all. Now it's our turn to pay it forward.

Best of Luck & Baby

It is a lot to think about isnt it.

OK lets see what I got here. I know it is hard to say you have a normal wake up time when you have a toddler, I have a 15 month old though he sleeps well. I get up at 6 and temp. You do the best you can if you wake up once or twice a week early say, you temp at 7 and your LO wakes you up at 6, temp then and enter it that way. Fertility Friend is totally designed to handle it. If you wake up at 3 and go back to bed, temp at 7. each individual temp is not as important as the overall trend.

If waiting for the thermometer is a concern see if there is a fast reading BBT one, there are some that temp in 8 seconds or less.

The temp shift usually isnt a degree or two, usually it is 2+ tenths of a degree, like 97.7 to up over 98.0 and higher for example.

Nikki is right checking your cervical fluid helps a lot. It should go from sticky to creamy to watery eggwhite. During those days you are considered "fertile" and BD every day or every other day during that time give you the best chance. There is some chance of getting pregnant the day after you O but the fertile window is in the few days before you ovulate until the day or so after

I personally dont use OPKs because my temp and CM are great signs for me

Thanks Ladies! I usually get a good amount of CM, EWCM the day before and day of a positive OPK. Since I quit smoking my cycle length decreased and O moved up 3-4 days. I went from a 33 day cycle to a 29 day cycle, With a + OPK on cd 15 instead of cd 19.

I still run into confusion as the best days to DTD without burning out. But I'll be here when that time comes for your awesome advice and knowledge pool.
