Alright forgive me if this is a stupid question! lol

I want to start charting, because we are going to begin to TTC next fall, so I figured I would start if I could.....

I have the mirena in, but I have my period every month like clockwork (Boooo!) Can I still chart? I do ovulate with the Mirena....right? or wrong? lol

I would LOVE to get it out early, but DH would prefer to get it out closer to when we TTC, because he doesn't want to deal with condoms! haha figures...

Thanks!

I'm not that familiar with Mirena.. but since it releases hormones I would say that charting wouldn't really give you an idea of how your body works naturally (kind of like if you were on the pill).. but I may be wrong, let's see what others say.

^I agree^

I think it *can* take your body awhile to get back to ovulating normally after having an IUD, but I'm not positive. I'm not sure if you ovulate while having it in or not.

You could start charting now for practice, but I don't think it would give you a very clear picture of how your cycles will be once it comes out.

Hope this helps!

Thanks! If anyone else knows please post!

Thats a good idea to practice, because I only half understand the concept, so I'll learn! :0)

I hear of a lot of people getting pregnant almost right away after the mirena is removed.

Hey!

The mirena is very similar to the pill in that it contains hormones. This makes your body think it is already pregnant, so charting isn't likely going to give you accurate readings of how your cycles are. It's still good ot get familiar with the charting process though!

Pregnancy times after mirena removal can vary, just like any other hormonal bc. Some women can get pregnant as soon as it is removed, for others, it takes longer.

Best of luck!

i knew absolutely nothing about the mirena until i saw my dr..we were discussing options that i can use after our first little bean until we are ready to ttc again..she said that the mirena is a great option because it does not stop you from ovulating..she said simply what it does is thins your uterine lining enough that a fertilized egg will not be able to implant..i am no expert on the topic but she told me it is a great option because she said when you are ready to ttc again it shouldn't interfere too much like the pill does..

The Mirena contains synthetic progesterone - so that will interfere with both your temperatures and your cervical mucus. The device itself also interfers with mucus because it causes a certain level of inflammation to the uterine lining and the cervix (where mucus is produced). The strings disrupt the plug that is supposed to form in your cervix to protect the uterus from infection, so this can cause all the time mucus.

It can prevent ovulation sometimes, but works more by keeping the lining of your uterus thin so that pregnancy cannot continue. When you do ovulate on the Mirena, you can't really detect it with charting because the synthetic progesterone interferes with your signs.

You can chart to practice though! It just won't tell you anything until the fake hormones are out of your system.
