I had always only heard of vaginally or orally. But today, while trying to figure out how and if one goes about temping vaginally during AF (cuz I just CAN'T bring myself to do it!!!) I read about doing it in your armpit. This seems awesome, because like vaginal it isn't affected by sleeping with your mouth open during a cold or anything like that, but it gets around the AF question and any weirdness that might occur from falling asleep with a thermometer down there.

Does anyone chart this way, and if so, could I see your chart? I want to switch because my temps are very erratic, and (looking at FF's chart gallery) vaginal charts don't seem to have that problem as much.

i read you shouldnt temp in the armpit because its not usually accurate (cold air will make cold skin) and temping vaginally you can just get the probe covers they sell at any market next to the thermometers. temping usually only takes 60 seconds so falling asleep with it in shouldnt occur... well.. it could i guess. lol. i sleep with my mouth open most nights and it hasnt affected my bbt pattern much at all. if i wake up i usually keep my mouth closed for a few min (i dont move at all) and then i temp. and try to put the thermo as far back under your tongue as possible so u get an accurate reading. hth!

I've never heard of anyone doing it in the armpit for charting purposes (we do take ds's temp that way). I would be interested to see if anybody does that.

It seems no one on JM does it, lol. I saw it mentioned in some old posts on other charting sites, which is what made me ask. I think I'll wait until next cycle and get the probe covers as suggested. Are they sold by thermometers in drug stores, or do I need to order them online somewhere?

I tried that once waaay back when I first started. Don't temp there. My temperature was really erratic, and I couldn't even tell when I ovulated. I would wake up with my arms over my head all the time, and my temp would be too low. Unless you plan to tie your arm to your ribcage, I really wouldn't. Orally seemed to make my temps erratic as well. No one uses my thermometer so I just temp vaginally and rinse it off.
