We just got my DH's semen analysis results back...I only talked to the nurse over the phone and she is referring him to a urologist, so we don't know too much at this point.

First of all, let me say that we have a 17-month old that we conceived after only 6 months of TTC, so I have hard time believing this is possible...

His sperm count is 1.3 million !
Low motility

I learned enough from a quick google search to know that they are going to say IVF is our only option for another child. We've always said we would never do that...I'm devastated. We wanted 6 kids... I already started DH on a multivitamin, zinc, fish oil and maca almost 2 months ago...but with counts that low I doubt it will make a difference.

Like I said, I don't see how this is possible or how in the world we were able to conceive without too much trouble before.

Does anyone have any hope to offer me with counts this low? I'm sure not. I don't even know what to think.

Ok, your story is very similar to DH and mine!! We conceived DS on month # 2. We got pregnant on our 3rd month trying this time around (had a m/c) and now it's been over a year. DH had low counts too and she suggested seeing an RE for IVF. What?!? We've been pregnant twice now...so how does that make sense?

Interesting that she said to send him to a urologist....my OB didn't mention that. I should suggest that to DH.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I feel your pain! My DH's SA was also really low (Sperm count- 400,000 )

Is this his first S/A? Did they say anything about having him do another in a few months? Sometimes the second S/A is better.

What did they suggest to you after your DH's SA?

I am sure the urologist will want him to do another sample. We are just in shock.
LilSunshine, what were your DH's counts?

He was in the low 20-million his first one...which was in the low-normal range, so she suggested the second. The 2nd was 6 million.

I'm not sure about any of the other results though (motility and whatever else they look at). She didn't mention it. I'm trying to get DH set up with the online medical chart system so that I can look at it.

i have recently read about men getting acupuncture to help with sperm count, it might be something to look into. I personally swear by acupuncture

lots of hugs to you and tons of T&P for the 2nd SA

I suggest going to a urologist. It could be a blockage. I'd also recommend getting his testosterone levels checked. DH found out after we'd been TTC 6-8mos that he had low testosterone. It wasn't until 4mos after he'd been on the shots for it that I found it significantly drops sperm count (see my chart with the SA results of each time... you'll notice it increased after the 1st IUI). The two can tie together and would indicate low production overall from the testes. I hope you get a much better SA next time.
