This cycle has led me to ponder whether or not I am recording my CD1 correctly. I am at CD21 and no ovulation. My period was longer than normal with 2-3 days of brown spotting before any red.

Normally I record "light" spotting on FF when I start to get the first signs of my period. These signs however are light amounts of brown discharge.

I remember reading somwhere that CD1 should be your first day of red bleeding.

So should I be recording my brown spotting at the beginning of my period as spotting or light period? Should my CD1 begin as soon as I have signs of my period, or when I get my first day of red bleeding?

If I have heavy spotting, I'll typically count it as light. But it sounds to me, like you should consider your CD1 the day you started red flow not the 2-3 days of brown spotting. HTH!

I wouldn't count light bits of brown discharge either. I was told that could be remaining from your last cycle or from ovulation. CD1 should be the first day your newest lining breaks down, when you see red flow.

I read that several days of spotting could be because of low progesterone. You might keep an eye on that in future charts.

I agree with the other ladies! cd 1 should be the first day you have red bleeding .

Thanks for that advice! I had an IUD for about two and a half years, so I always figured the brown spotting was from that, but I will make sure I take notice in future cycles now that my IUD is out.

Good question. I get pre-period spotting sometimes too and didnt know wether to count that as day 1 or not. I have been counting the first day of red blood as day one and that would make my LP 14 days so that must be correct.

So, I have been worrying a bit about the low-progesterone issue.

I have been able to find a little info about it and I do have a few of the symptoms.

Does anyone else have any more information for me? We're not TTC right now, but if I have any potential issues, I want to try to look after them now.
