Hi ladies -- for all those who check their cervical position, what is it supposed to do after ovulation? I am still trying to get a hang of all this, and I thought after ovulation the cervical position was supposed to lower again. This is my first cycle actively TTC, and I'm still trying to learn everything. Since I started charting mid-cycle, I have been checking my cervical position but didn't actually put it on my chart because I didnt know what low/medium/high would be.

Anyway, it seems that my cervical position is actually still really high. I can barely reach it still. it's only been in the last several days that I've found a standing/sitting position that lets me reach the highest, and it's still difficult. It also seems like the cervix opening itself is "turned" where I can't reach it, but can reach the side of the cervix, if that makes sense? (sometimes it sneaks down and I can actually feel the opening of the cervix)

I'm spotting today and will be on CD1, I imagine. Is the high position of the cervix normal for this stage in the cycle? Maybe I'm just mistaken that the position should've lowered already....?

Ive been checking my cervix for several years now and sometimes even I cant figure it out. I usually only use it as a secondary sign. I use ovulation tests and cervix mucus as first signs. What I have figured out about the cervix is that as far as figuring out the height its really hard because your cervix can be higher or lower also depending on the position you are in. I found it is easier to tell the height of it while having sex. When it is higher than DH can go deeper comfortably. Sorry TMI. As for the opening, I also find mine is pointing back quite frequently and hard to reach. You may have a tilted uterus. This can make checking your cervix more difficult. This is when your uterus curves towards your back and not your stomach and this can make the direction your cervix points away from the front. You can find out during an ultrasound or sometimes pap smear but its no big deal. I can only tell a differance in the opening during the couple days before Ovulation and on Ovulation day, so all the other days during your cycle you probably wont notice much differance. As for after O, usually within 24 hours after O the cervix will once again close, harden, and the cervix mucus should go back to sticky.

The cervix is the most difficult fertility sign to interpret - but fortunately a good CM record with or without temps can tell you all you need to know. If I were you I'd focus on those two things and include the cervix sign later if you wish for extra confirmation.

Thanks ladies. The CM is such a great sign, I agree that the position isn't necessarily needed as a primary sign. I find all the changes fascinating -- I was actually excited earlier in the cycle when I noticed the cervical position getting higher and when I felt the creamy CM in there! So when I didn't feel it lowering again, I was just curious what was going on. No big deal though. Thanks for the responses!
