Newbie and confused!

Hi my name is Kristen. I have a 10 month old and I just got my cycle back 2 months ago. Ontop of that I've been having some issues gynocologically so I don't really know what's going on with my body. I've always checked my cervix, and cm but this is my 1st time temping and charting along with using OPK's. Any help would be great!! I had a feeling that I was ovulating 2 times a month and this cycle is my 1st time using OPK's so I think I was right all along. This is the OPK from yesterday evening and I *think* it's positive. If you all agree then that would make it my 2nd positive OPK this month.I tested pos on Thursday evening and Fri afternoon. I also had an U/S on Sat (not for fertility but checking for cysts and such) and the tech confirmed I was currently ovulating then too. On Sunday my OPK was sooo negative along with everyday until yesterday evening. Any help would be great! Thanks!

Hi Kristen and welcome! It can definitely be confusing when you first start charting, but once you get into the routine and start seeing the patterns, it gets much easier. As for the positive OPKs twice in one month, what probably happened is that your body tried to ovulate a week ago but it didn't happen...so then this last positive shows your body gearing up to try to ovulate again. One important thing to note about OPKs is that they predict when ovulation is supposed to happen. They do not guarantee that you ovulate. So, you can get a positive OPK but not ovulate, if that makes sense. That's where the temp taking comes in handy. By temping, you can confirm that ovulation occurred. Unfortunately, it does not predict when ovulation will happen. So, using both OPKs and taking your temps is a good combination. Plus, checking your CP & CM will also help. It looks like you're off to a good start. Being sick can definitely affect temps, and I'd assume that it might also be the reason why your body geared up to ovulate but didn't last week. I'd expect your temps to start rising in the next day or two.

Thank you so much that was the best explanation and it makes perfect sense. I just really hope that next cycle my temps stabilize and I can get a good look at what my "normal cycle temps" look like!! Thanks again!
