So, this morning I tried to temp for the first time. My wake up time is 5:30am, since DH leaves for work about then on weekdays. I failed, LOL. I am temping vaginally and when I put it in a pushed the button, I heard nothing. It's supposed to beep. I took it out and looked at it, 96.4, but I hear no beeps telling me it was in the right position and/or done. I got annoyed and got up and checked my CM and peed and went back to bed. I was so disappointed in myself and was asking, why oh why am I doing this.

I figured it out tonight. My lady bits covered the sound hole, plus my PJ pants, plus all my blankets. I never heard the beep though all that! I tried again tonight, need to get my technique down. I wasn't hearing a beep at first, then I heard a really faint one. I had no blankets on and everything around my ankles, I focused and hear it beep done! I did it again, not so far in and the beeps got louder, this is going to be tricky!

To those how do/have temped vaginally, how much movement really disturbs your temp? It is a bit much to get the thermometer off the night stand (in the dark), yank down my bottoms, place it while on my back (that's awkward) and wait to hear the beeps. Would sitting up and temping from a sitting position be enough to make it out of whack? What about leaning over the bed and grabbing a pillow to help with positioning so its not so... awkward. Have any of you thought, why am I doing this, this is crazy? Maybe just me since I'm using it to TTA.

Also, TCOYF is annoying me, I put other events and they show on wrong days on my chart, but are correct on the calendar. I put in a temp out of curiosity and removed it but it is still there. GR!

hmm. I dont temp vaginally, but i think that it is most important to stay consistent and always do the same thing, if you always sit up, then sit up, etc. How far in are you trying to go with it? it shouldnt go in very far, maybe an inch? just to the silver tip is fully covered. grip it near the tip and stop inserting when you fingers stop you.

did you try temping orally? is there a reason that isnt a good choice for you?

I am a mouth breather and I snore, I also tend to toss and turn. I figured vaginally would be best for consistent temps.

Thank you, I was going in way further than needed, this morning I went in until the thing beeped that it was in position, I will do that from now on. I will also try with my fingers just above the silver tip to see if that works well.

My temps are already crazy different from 2 days, I'm trying not to think about that like its bad, LOL.

i think you are still trying to learn how to do everything. what kind of thermometer do you have that beeps when it is in the right spot? I have NEVER heard of that before?

It beeps when its i guess in a good place to get a temp, my guess is just so its covered completely in moisture. See link. I got a temp similar to my first vaginal temp, so that give me hope that I am doing things right... maybe. LOL!

I've found vaginally is much easier. And like the other poster said, as long as you are consistent, it doesn't matter what you do really. If you do jumping jacks for 5 minutes before taking your temp, as long as you do that every morning, you'll see a pattern.

If you wake earlier or later than normal, you can also use a bbt adjuster. It seems to be pretty accurate for me. I guess it depends on your personal patterns.

I dont use the adjuster myself I just always enter in the exact time that I took my temp and then if it is too far from my normal time FF will make the circle open and take that into consideration when looking at everything else overall.

I still havent heard of a thermometer that beeps to say it is in a good spot. Mine (and I have had 5 different ones) beeps when I turn it on, then it shows the last recalled temperature, then some of them beep when the screen is clear and ready to take the temp. That is when I would put it in my mouth or whereever to take the temperature.

the one i linked will beep once and then again every 4 seconds as long as it is in a good spot to take a temp. if you move it and it can't get a good reading it will beep for either a long amount of time or it will stop consecutive beeps and then you know somethings wrong. it does a 3 fast beep when the temp is good. it also saves the last temp and has a backlight. it's neat!

Well, I think you should get a different thermometer! ha ha, that one sounds too confusing. Mine, I just put my finger on the bottom, then while in bed, spread my legs, wear loose pj's lol, and put it in until it's about to touch my fingers. Then I press the button and listen. If I don't hear it after a bit, I count to thirty then take it out.

I don't move much. I know if I get up or go pee I can have as much as a .2-.5 degree difference which is quite a bit when charting and that's what makes rocky temps! Don't look at mine though-I have PCOS so they are gonna be rocky.

Good luck and happy charting!
