the amnio came back today and showed abnormal chromosome 18, which is mirrored. they said they wouldn't worry except that this baby already showed signs of genetic problems...I have no idea what this means, if anyone has an idea please let me know. they need to go get blood work -to check their chromosomes, please keep them in your prayers. i feel soo bad for her.

I will keep your sister in my prayers. I do not know anything about this. I wish I could help more.

Oh, no, I will worry about this until I hear whether the baby's okay.

I don't know much about genetic diseases or defects, but I think what they are talking about is called Trisomy 18 or Edward(s) Syndrome. I have heard of it before but I don't know anything about it besides what it's called.

I am sorry. I really really hope they are wrong and this is nothing.

o.k. good news i think. it is not chromosome 18, it is 13, 14. they are translocated but balanced. the geneticists she talked to said he does not have down's or trisomy 18, and it looks like all the chromosomes are there but just re-arranged, they will get their blood done to see if one of them has it. he also said that worst case scenario would be growth and devlpmental delays but he is checking some other things too, keep praying, i think this sounds a lot better than it did, when they were worrying about the 18th chrom......

Well I hope that it turns out okay!

That is not too bad, especially since they thought it was something more serious. But I guess they'll still just have to wait and find out for sure. I do hope he'll be born fine.

sweetie, and prayers to your family. You can always post this question on the special needs board. Someone there may know more about the subject.
