My new thermo tells me to temp by putting the thermometer near the farthest tooth in the back under my tongue. ???? What is that about? should I have to do this or can I take it like normal under my tongue in the front of my mouth???

You should be taking your temperature that way normally.

Just sticking your thermometer in your mouth over your tongue, or slipping it just under the front of the tongue, isn't accurate. You should put it under your tongue and then push it back as far as it can go. You'll feel a little pressure and that's how you know it's in the right place.

So, it tells you to do it that way because that's how you get an accurate temp reading.

Because the front part is more susceptible to changes fromt he outside air. Try it with, I did last night and I got 97.3 in the front and 98.4 in the back on the right and 98.3 in the back on the left. That is a big difference. One thing to remember is to always take your temp on the same side. As you can see my right was warmer than the left. I always take mine on the right.

Yep that's true too! Always take it on the same side. Pick left or right and stick with it.
