my OPK was positive for 1 day. I BDd the couple days before hand and the night of the positive. The day after the positive my cervical fluid completely dried up. We didn't end up BDing for a couple days following. Do you agree with Fertility friend for my O date? Do you think I still have a chance this month or did I miss the egg?

Yes, I agree with FF ... so far. If your temps go back down and it takes away your crosshairs, start using the O tests again. You can gear up to O and not actually release an egg ... and since it just gave you crosshairs there's still plenty of time for your temps to show that it was a false alarm.

But for now I'm assuming that you did, in fact, ovulate on CD 15.

You got the positive OPK the day before O. If you BD that night (the night you got the +) you're fine.

You're not trying to BD the day of ovulation, really. You're trying to get as much in as possible before the egg is ever released, so that the sperm are kind of sitting around waiting. The egg can die within 24 hours so trying to time sex exactly to ovulation won't catch the egg. You can't pinpoint ovulation exactly anyway. The best you can figure is a probable day.

And your OPK isn't supposed to be positive for more than one or (maybe) two days ... that's nothing to worry about. You're testing for a surge in a certain hormone, which peaks 24-36 hours before the egg is released. If your OPKS were almost always positive you'd need to see a doc ... that's not normal. The way yours worked is. Most women, if they test later that same day, will get a negative. The surge doesn't last long.

I'm not sure why you're confused.

Thanks for the response.

Im not confused about the OPK.. i think I finally got the hang of it. I just wasn't sure because ofmy cervical mucus. They didn't seem to line up with eachother, but I guess I'll give it a couple months and figure it all out.
I hope I did catch the egg.. now I just have to wait and see. That's the hard part!

It's actually really common for the CM to only last up until O, and not be present on that actual day.

It makes sense when you think about it as, the sperm should hopefully already be there. When the egg is finally released you're not actually all that fertile anymore. It's best to BD ahead of time!

So your signs line up perfectly. Don't worry.

Good luck!

I don't know all that much about charting yet, but from what I can see you look like you are in good shape! Good luck!!!!

There is actually no way to know the *exact* day of ovulation except by daily transvaginal ultrasound.

Cervical mucus, temperatures, and OPK's give us a very close estimate - but it's still just an estimate accurate within +/- 2 days. Temperatures can take an extra day or two to rise in response to progesterone produced after ovulation occurs, so contrary to popular belief - the day of the rise is not always the day of ovulation. OPK's give 12-48 hours notice in advance. Cervical mucus is actually the closest sign - ovulation occurs closest to the last day of slippery mucus before it dries up. That last day before the dry up is the fertility Peak. By close though, ovulation could be the same day, the day before, the day after, two days before, or two days after. Even ovulation cramping or pains are not conclusive, they can start to happen when the fallopian tubes begin to contract in preparation to "catch" the egg. Pain can also be felt when the egg ruptrues through the ovary. There is no way to know why a pain is happening, except by daily transvaginal ultrasound.

The moral of the story, charting cannot tell us the exact day of ovulation. Only a very, very, very good estimate.
