I have a problem temping. My default time is 6:00, which is the time my alarm goes off. But almost every day (although not consistently), I become a light sleeper at like 4:00 in the morning, and I wake up every half hour or so. Which means, I am not getting 3 hours of consecutive sleep by 6. Would you advise to take my temperature when I wake up naturally in the early, early morning, or wait until I actually get up every morning at 6?

IF it is consistent that you wake up at 4, then I would temp then. Even if you have to change your alarm to make sure it is everyday at 4.
I have been having the same problem, so I started temping early to make sure it was the most accurate temp.

As long as you get 3 or 4 hours of sleep before you wake up at 4 am, there's no reason not to temp then. Change your alarm to make sure it's consistent though. You can always set another for 6 to actually "wake you up" and get out of bed.

That is what I do. SOmedays for work I have to get up at about 0415 to be at work by 0545m yuck! So I always set it early (now anyway, I wasn't consistent last month and it screwed up my chart BIG TIME!). SO now I temp at like 4 something, and if it is a weekend, etc I just set another alarm to ge my up when I need to.

I do that occasionally too. I am not consistent with when I wake up early or how often so when I do I try to make myslef go back to sleep quickly and try not to really "wake up" kwim? If I have to pee I just hold it b/c then I would really wake up! I also make note of it on my chart. I can't tell if it makes a difference on my temps because mine are irratic anyway.

Can I suggest that you experiment with your temps ... ie take your temp at 4am one day and then take it again later in the morning. Find a temp adjuster online somewhere and see once you've adjusted your 4am temps are they close to the 6am ones. If they are then you can keep temping at the later time. I'm one of those people that my temps don't change as long as I'm not too active in that time.

I used to be like that. But, now even just an hour will make a difference of up to .3 degrees. Which around O time can make a difference. I was wondering about this a few weeks ago. I used to temp whenever and never seemed to have aproblem, but now if I temp early or late it throws off my chart.

Maybe it is a symptom of getting old....lol.
