I first heard about it on JM and thought it seemed a bit over-the-top and obsessive....but, considering the fact that I am an obsessing, Type A, planner kinda gal, I started charting!

I heard about it here at JM and just had to get myself a chart too. I have been addicted ever since.

I had actually heard and read about charting a long time ago. But when I decided to get preggers the first time, I figured, "let's try and if we have problems, I'll worry about it then." WHAMMO, 1 month, pregnant. So, no issues. Went back on hormonal birth control after baby. Decided for #2, went off BC, one month later, pregnant again. But we lost the baby. Had a D&C last week. My bleeding has stopped, and as much as I want to be pregnant again right away, I really want to wait till I get AF to be able to date my pregnancy, and since I never feel ovulation, and never know when it happens, I thought." well, maybe charting will be something I can do to give me an idea..." and since I'm a scientist...what better way to get my mind off things somewhat than to have little experiment! I think it's going to be nice to get in touch with body for a change. And since I hated hormonal birth control so much, I think I might continue charting after we have our next baby as my way of natural family planning as well!

Oh gosh. Probably the first time was when I was going through puberty, my Mom explained a bit about it - so that if I saw mucus, I would know it was normal and it was related to my fertility. She didn't go into much more detail than that. She used charting for many years to avoid and conceive, depending on their intentions at the time.

Then I heard about it again in Catholic High School during one of the religion classes on marriage. It included a presentation on all the modern methods of Natural Family Planning, so we learned a fair bit about the different ways of charting.

I finally learned to chart a few months before our wedding. We met with an instructor and got started in advance so I could get to know my body before we actually needed to use it.
