I use a digital therm. not sure what the differences are. Figured as long as I use the same one every day then it should be fine.. Maybe I am wrong though.

I do know that you should try to temp at the same time every day... or as close to it as possible!

I use a regular digital too, and it works just fine. You definitely need to take your temp at the same time, as soon as you wake up after having slept for at least 3 hours. Make sure you do it before drinking, eating, etc. I have tested this out by temping other times a day, and it varies A LOT from my BBT. Morning temping is definitely the most consistent.

You do have to temp at the same time everyday, or as close to it as possible. After you get to know your body you can vary it to some extent because you will know if a temp needs to be adjusted or not.

As for the thermometer, a digital one is fine but it needs to fit a few criteria. One, it can't be a rapid read, like it finished in about 10 seconds. I tried using one an dmy temp was always too low. My reg digi and my BBT both take about 30 seconds, which gives it a chance to equalize the temp of the cold thermoter and your warm mouth. Also, it needs to measure to the tenths. so it should be 97.1, 97.1, 97.3, etc. Not, 97.2, 97.4, 97.6, etc. If it measures to the hundreths 97.12 is ok too, but for me it would make me to obsessed with the differences and the fluctuations.
Good Luck!

Glad to see you here! Here's a some good info for you to read to get started. Getting Started I started with a reg digi therm, then a few months ago finally bought my bbt. The only thing I do like about the bbt is with my reg therm it looked like I had alot of flat temps, but with the bbt you can see a slight difference because it reads to the .00 so there is a slight change in temps. But like Megan said, if it's a quick read then I'd recommend buying a new one. MY bbt was only 10bucks so not bad. Good Luck, feel free to pm me with any questions.
