A good friend of mine has been doing the charting method to PREVENT pregnancy, she has used it for 2 yrs now maybe 2 1/2 yrs. She is irregular so she does use OPKs as well and chart her cm cp just to be safe. For the first few mos she was using a BBT thermometer it always showed that she Oed and when she Oed. The last 3 mos she has used a reg thermometer because her dog got a hold of the other one. The first month she used it it said she didnt O. Wasnt a biggie for her she just kept going, same thing second month she used it said she didnt O. Now she is on her third month and she got a positive opk and everything else matched up, so they avoided Bding. The day after her positive opk she got a temp rise but then the next 2 days it was low again so it said she didnt O. Is she really not Oing or could it be the thermometer? She is upset because she doesnt want to get pg, but doesnt want to be on anything, this method has worked for them, but if she isnt Oing and going to try later in her cycle she would like to try and avoid it all. This all started once she stopped using her BBT so could the reg one be wrong or not show a thermal shift at all?

i would blame the thermometer, but i dont know much about the differences other than BBT is in hundredths and reg ones are in tenths

It's the therm, once I switched from fever therm to BBT therm, my temps were much more even. If she goes to early-pregnancy-tests.com they are very cheap on there. Go check out my chart. I started the BBT therm on CD 25. It does make a big difference.

Is there a chance she did O through when it said she didnt O?

Depending on how old the regular therm is, it could be low batteries! I noticed when I bought a new therm (cause I was afraid original one was about to go out. It's many years old!), that the new one was much more sensitive. I took my temp w/ both old and new to compare, and the new showed my temp .5 degrees higher than the old one.

It would depend on the type of therm. I used a regular one for years and it showed a clear thermal shift, but it was a BD brand, which is the 'leader' in BBT therms.
If I were her I would get a new one just to be safe.
