I had a slight temp drop today and was wondering if that was normal. I'm 3 dpo and usually temps should go up. I'm still above the cover line, but just was surprised the temp went down .4

Any ideas why this could be??

I dunno sweetie. I had the same thing at 6DPO. Isn't that too early for implantation?

Your temp dip could definitely be implantation. Mine is way to early.

I don't know much about fallback rises, is there anything I should know about them?

There's a whole thing on FF that talks about the different temp patterns-addresses fall back rise as well. I tried to find it so I could give you the direct link, but I'm not seeing it. But I do know it's there! Lol.

I also read online that implantation could happen as early as 4 dpo. I also wonder if you could have o'd earlier than your chart says?

GL.

Glad that I found this bc I'm having the same thing - I'm 4DPO.
My temp dipped 2 days in a row... not much & it's still above my CL... I just thought it was strange.
I need to read up on this fall back rise thing!

There is always a temperature drop during the luteal phase caused by a secondary estrogen surge that happens to every woman. Some months you will see it on your chart and some months you won't. It all depends on when the surge happens, if it happens at 9 am then you likely will not get a temp dip in that months chart, if it happens at 9 pm then you should see a temp dip the next day. Totally normal, and doesn't mean pregnant or not pregnant. Most people like to call it an implantation dip, however the implant dip is purely a myth, all it takes is for 1 woman to have a dip on a bfp cycle and she says it is from implantation. Truth and facts show that an embryo implanting will not show any signs on your chart whatsoever except for elevated temps past your luteal phase. HTH

Hey Sandy! Glad to see you over here. That was very useful. I have to agree with everyone else. Your chart looks pretty normal to me.

Temp is the same (lower) for the 2nd day in a row - is it common for the fallback rise to happen for multiple days.

Thanks everyone for your responses - Sandy your info was very helpful!

Sandy- Wow I never knew that. Do you have a w/s with this info? Why does FF look for the dip in temp if it's only a myth? Here's what I found....
http://conceivenow.netfirms.com/bbt/implantdip.htm
Jess- My temps dropped more this morning too. Not sure what it means.

FF will not ever pop up with a message that says "implantation dip". What happens is sooo many women talk about it all the time that they added it to the signs checkboxes for the chart gallery. TTC can get pretty crazy. All it takes is for one person to say something helped them get pregnant and the for sure sign was X and all of a sudden everyone beleives that. Think of this......

" I just knew I was pregnant because this month there was a curve pattern in my chart and I had tingly toes."

You can bet that someone will read this statement and say

"Hey now that you mention it, my chart had a curve pattern and my toes were tingling too!!"

Now there is not only a new pregnancy sign, but there is also a new charting thing too going around. And the more pregnant people who pop up with a curved pattern and tingly toes, the further this false statement goes.

Here is a helpful chart I found a long time ago that shows the hormones during your cycle:

It is not known where the "Implantation Dip Myth" got started, but it is one hard myth to break. Women have grown to believe it means that implantation has taken place when their temperature suddenly drops sometime after ovulation, and then goes back up. There is no scientific basis for why implantation of an embryo would cause basal temperature to drop. In fact, implantation of an embryo may cause temperatures to slowly rise (see Triphasic Temperature Pattern). There is however, a reason for what is called a "fallback temperature."

If you'll focus on the "plasma hormonal concentration" section of the chart you can see the relative levels of progesterone and estrogen. Notice that a time after ovulation that estrogen levels surpass progesterone. This is the cause for the fallback temperature. The hormonal chart may be a little misleading, fallback temperatures can happen anywhere from 2-9dpo and do not mean you are or are not pregnant. Do not give up hope if you have a drop in temperature before 12dpo, it doesn't necessarily mean you are not pregnant. It is not a pregnancy symptom though.
