DH and I are TTC our 6th, i'm due for af on wednesday which will start our 3rd cycle TTC. I can't temp due to the fact that I am still breastfeeding, and dd still wakes up occasionaly during the middle of the night, and also nurses as soon as we wake up in the morning. So i wouldn't be able to get accurate temps. Would monitoring cervical position and cm be enough? Should I get some OPK's? After dd's birth in October '06 i got the Mirena IUD and got that removed on June 13th. The time between my 1st and 2nd cycle was 27 days......close to my normal 28 day cycles pre-preg. I don't just "know" when I ovulate like some people are lucky enough to pick up on. So wonder what the best methods would be for me. I would really love to have a May baby so I hope this will be the month for us. I took an hpt this morning and got a BFN with AF due 2 days away so it hasn't happened with this cycle.

Thanks for any advice you may have.

If you definitely can't temp then I would at least use OPK's and keep a close eye on CM. You may want to give temping a try anyway, even to see if you can get an idea with them.

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks! I just ordered some OPK's and should have them within the week. Got a pretty good deal too, 15 opk's plus 5 hpt's for 16.95 including shipping.

So with OPK's, are they a one-a-day type thing? Best to use FMU, do it at the same time every day, etc? I've got a lot of reading to do about them, never used them before.

With OPK's, you usually dont use FMU. They say its best to test around 2 pm so the LH hormone has time to build up in your urine. I usually test at 11 am and 4 pm. Make sure to not drink too much and hold your urine for atleast 3 hours. Hope this helps and good luck!

With DD waking up at night, (if it were me) I would first get her schedule, and see when she is able to sleep at least 3 hours in a row. When I wake up at that time, do the temp...(would also be training her in preparation for the baby). Then CM, and of course BD every other day ...if possible!

Thanks........she used to be such a good sleeper, sleeping all night from the time she was 6 weeks old, up until about a month ago. Now about 5 nights out of 7 she will get up at either 12 or 2 a.m. I guess I could temp as soon as I wake up in the morning as she's always been asleep 3 hours before that, but I usually wake up to her nursing cuz dh will put her in bed with me when she wakes up and she'll go right to nursing. I'm not really a scheduler so that wouldn't work out for nightime. She'll be 10 months old next week, so even if I were to get pregnant right now that gives her 9 months to hopefully get out of the waking phase.

Thanks! My opks are on their way and I'll be reading up alot on checking cm and cp over the next week. I assume i should start checking those things right after AF is over?

It sounds like you would probably do best with the Creighton's Method or Billing method but instead of avoiding pregnancy, you would do the opposite . You just would observe CM and CP. OPKs will work too. You may want to consider drinking decaf green tea, it really helped my CM. It was undeniable when EWCM was there.

Good luck!

This may sounds gross, but its best to check CP when you have AF. I know gross, but its the way you can tell when its open. Since you have had kids before your cervix is always open, so its harder to tell when its open open. That is how I got to find out when mine was open open.
Cm start as soon as AF leaves.

Nah I'm used to it. I bled 7 months straight when I had my IUD and checked often for the IUD strings. Nothing a bit of good hand soap can't cure =) lol.

Thanks for the info though, I can feel AF coming on, probably tomorrow or Wednesday, so will start checking on CD1. So during AF it will be open open and after AF it will be less open? I apologize for the million ?'s I'll ask lol, I've never had to do any of this before........dh would just wink at me and I'd be preggers lol.

When you have AF your cervix will OPEN OPEN which it will do the same thing around O time. Around O your cervix will be SHOW(soft high open and wet). Once AF is gone, check your CP again and it will be closed. Not all the way since you do have kids, but closed a lot more then when you have AF. Make sure its a flow when you check it because that is the time your be able to tell if its open open.
I agree, hand soap! That is the way I figured out what mine should feel like was when I had AF. I couldnt tell before because I have a DD and my cervix was always open.
