Hi all,

Today I met my doc. and she asked me to chart my temps, to make sure im ovulating. I really have no idea as to how to chart. and which thermometers to use. I know that i have to use basal body ones and not the normal ones, but which brands to use. Here i see almost all the members charting theit temps. Tell me which are the best brands to use and where are they available. thanks

I LOVE my BD brand (funny name, hug?). I purchased it on-line from the Couple to COuple League website, but you can get it from other places too.

I ordered it here

http://ccli.org/store/onlineshopping.php?c...p;order_by=name

You can also get it here

http://www.drugstore.com/qxp40512_333181_s...thermometer.htm

Or you can go to a pharmacy, Walmart, etc. and buy one, I am not sure if they will sell the BD brand.

What I like about this one is it beeps as you take your temp, so you know it is in the right spot. I find that a really helpful feature, less guess as to if the temp is right because you didn't shove it in your mouth enough....lol.

I bought mine from a drug store named CVS, I couldn't find one at Walmart. As far as getting started temping, the most basic info I can tell you is take your temp at the same time every morning before getting out of bed! most of us set an alarm to wake up and temp, then I often go back to sleep. Good Luck, I hope you find that you are ovulating!

Getting STarted There's good info on that post for getting started temping!

Hi, I'm using the VICKS brand with speed read. It beeps when its done and gives the temp in about 10 to 15 secs. I bought it from Shoppers Drug Mart (a canadian chain). HTHs.

Thermomters that give the reading that quick are no the best option for charting. They will give false low temps when it is cold in your room. I used one for a while and my chart look rocky and like I had not O'd, which has never happened to me before. I switched back to using a fever themr that took about 30 sec to read my temp and it was much better. After that i bought the BBT and so far it has been the same as my BD brand non-BBT. The only difference between the 2 BD therms I have used is the color of the case.

I purchased mine at Target for like $10.99. I think it's from Simmons? It's white and pink.

BTW, Fertility Friend has a free charting course that will help you learn TONS! It's totally worth the time, they send you one email a day.

Yeah, you should be really using one that goes to the double tenths (like 97.93) that is specifically for basal use, or you're not going to be noticing the temp shifts quite as much.

Actually it is easier to notice a temp shift on a therm that measures to the tenths only. The problem with Elaine's is that if it is cold in her room the quick read therms will not take time to allow the temp of the therm to warm up to normal body temp and may give a false low reading.

I mistakenly purchased a BD brand rapid read therm (9 seconds) and my temps were in the low 96's, which is very low even for me with a thyroid condtion. So I purchased a new BD brand BBT (which measures to the tenths and not the hundreds and is recommended by the author of TCOYF) and my temps were consistently higher. By about .5, so that is a big enugh difference to me for it to matter.

With that said. Elaine, your chart seems to be ok. You can see a clear temp shift, and your numbers have enough difference to show the thermal shift. In the winter it might matter, but if you keep your house at a constant temp it may not matter. For me my DH opens the windows in the winter, and uses a fan year round, so it would be rather cold and it did effect my chart.

By the way the accu-beep BD brand therm, the regular white one that is not rapid read works the same as their BBT. It costs a little less too. The only difference between the two is the color. I used their reg one for all the time I was charting to avoid (when exact temps are even more important) and never had a problem with it. The only reason I paid extra for the BBT was because it was purple and I could tell my kids it was OFF LIMITS to them. They think it will turn them into a girl :-X I was buying a new one evevery 6 months or so and got tired of it. I have had the purple on now for almost a year...lol.

I hope I didn't come off as a know-it-all....lol. I am a bit of a nerd. You were right that something that measures to the hundreths is more accurate.

For me though, ugh, it makes it hard to figure out if the temps are a full .2 above, or if it is really .1 or even .3 higher. I like it to be nice and neat on the line, I look I see 97.5, and then 97.7 then 97.8 then 98. SO I know there have been three temps at least .2 higher. But, if I see inbetween the lines I am like 'geez is that .2? or is that one temp 5 days ago only .15?'
