I check internally because I personally get a better sample/reading or whatever that way. I do it the way that fertilityfriend suggests by inserting 2 fingers (yes, it was way unusual and uncomfortable at first!), then kind of wiggle them around the opening of the cervix to release the CM, slowly pull them out keeping them together, then I slowly separate my fingers to see how the consistency is. I know that some people do just fine with observing externally, but to each their own in this case I believe.

It depends some get a enough ewcm that it just comes out of them while others done and they have to check internal for it.

I just check mine externally when I wipe because I get a bit squeamish checking it vaginally. Usually if it is wet or EWCM, it will show up immediately on the tissue. Unless you don't see clear EWCM (or too little of it like Magan says), then maybe you can check vaginally. HTH.

TMI - I generally check mine just when I wipe after using the loo. Sometimes if I don't notice anything that day, I will check internally.

I've heard it's usually easier to check after you've (TMI again) gone number 2.
