In 3 weeks, I'll be going off BC pills to chart instead (using it as BC). I read Taking Charge of Your Fertility cover-to-cover, but I'm still nervous to start. My DH and I have dicussed that an "oops" could happen and we can accept that. But I want to make sure I'm doing the best I can at this temping and cervical fluid thing. I guess what makes me the most nervous is I'm not sure how long it will take the BC pill hormones to leave my body, which could skew my first few months of charting. I can tell I will be paranoid..... If you were taking BC pills, how long did it take for your body to get back to natural..... and were any of you nervous starting to chart (as a means for BC)?

I think it's different for every woman. Some women are normal right off the pill. Some others take much longer.

My doctor told me it'd possibly take three months to become normal again. I'm now about 7 months off the pill and I am still no where near normal. I was told after not being normal those three months that it could take a year to become normal.

My best friend went off the pill and was regular her first month off it and got pg. the second month.

So, it's really different in each situation.

I agree, it varies for every woman. I can personally tell you that I was on them for a very long time with a few 3 & 4 year breaks between relationships. I stopped BCP in Feb2007 and my body is still not back to normal and it's now Oct2007, so 9mo. In Sept the doctor put me on Provera to make me have a period since I didn't have one for May, June, July or August. The provera worked but now AF is still MIA.

Good luck to you sweetie and I hope you get back to normal quickly. I was on BCP for a long time so I think that's why it's taking me longer to get back to normal.

Everyone is different. Some people go back to "normal" right away, some do not.

If you're still nervous about your body and what will happen, maybe you could make an appt with your doctor? I know at our office we do "pre-conception" counseling.

Good luck, and welcome to the world of charting! You've done the right thing by researching before diving in!!!

I've been on BC pills for while too, more than 4 yrs. I had a very normal period before the pills so I hope that will help me get back to normal. I have a pre-conception appt with my OB/GYN in December.

For me personally, I was on BCP for about 10 months when I decided to start charting, preventing for 3 months and now we are ttc this month. It took my body 1 month to regulate itself and we were successful at preventing for those 3 months and I'm confident that I could have done it for much longer. After this next baby, I will go right into charting as opposed to BCP! Good luck and welcome!!!

If you need any support, come on over to the NFP and FAM board. Charting to avoid is what we do, and several others over there have first hand experience coming off a synthetic hormone too. Best wishes!

I agree with what most the women on here have said. Coming off BC is defferent for all women. I Went off the pill back in May. I have yet to have a period. My DR wants to give my body until next month to kick start itself. If next month comes then he is going to start doing tests to get to the bottom of this. I used to chart but quit after waiting 3 months to get AF. We were planning on starting to TTC this month! That plan went right out the window. Sorry just venting a little.
