Okay, so this is my first post on this board! I have been pestering the WTTC ladies with my charting questions, but decided since they seem to be endless, that I would come here! This is my first month off birth control and my first month charting.

My question is - I take my temp at the same time every day. Like, my husband sets the alarm clock for when he wakes up, and then when he gets up, I take my temp. However, I don't usually actually wake up at that time. I wake long enough to temp and then go back to bed. Is this okay, or is this going to alter my temps? I always have plenty more then 3 hours of sleep (we always go to bed at the same time, I just have a crazy work schedule and don't always need to be up at the same time). I'm only asking because I'm on CD17 and have had no temp shift (I'm very impatient and my cycles off BC are usually very regular...of course I have been on for the past year, so I'm sure my body is just adjusting), so I just wanted to be sure that I eventually WOULD see a temp shift even if I don't necessarily "wake up for the day" when I take my temp.

Does that make any sense at all?

As long as you take it near the same time every morning, it doesn't matter if you go back to sleep or not. That's perfectly fine.

However, you are very newly off BC. It can take a woman's fertility some time to transition back to functioning on it's own again, so you'll have to be patient while your body sorts itself out! Most women do begin ovulating again fairly quickly, but it may take a little longer for your cervix to heal from the effects of the BC and begin producing good quality cervical mucus again. You will likely become regular again, if that's what you were like before, but it can take some time to get there first. Average recovery times are anywhere between 3-18 months, but can last even longer in some circumstances (depending on age, if you've had previous children, how long you had synthetic hormones in your body, which contraceptive it was, etc).

When you ovulate, you WILL see a shift if you temp every day. Hang in there!

Thanks ladies! I'm having fun charting - it is definitely empowering to understand what's going on with my body!

And I'm pretty sure I have EWCM today which is very encouraging to me. I think I need to get used to this charting thing - it's hard to wait for that temp shift to know that I have ovulated - I'm such an instant gratification kind of girl I guess!

Charting/temping is so much fun!

I use to do the same thing you do with the temping. Most days of the week I would wake up at the same time--and take my temp then get up, but on the weekend, I would set my alarm for 5 am, then take my temp and go back to sleep. I don't see any problem with it.

Hope you have an easy transition off BC pills!

Oh...and !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
