I usually have a build up of CM during my cycle and usually one day where it is really heavy, like falling out (TMI)
Do you usually ovulate a couple of days after you first start seeing the CM? or the day with the heaviest amount? or can i only tell by temping...

Mucus builds up several days prior to ovulation, culminating in a lubricative feeling (though by that time, you might not actually SEE much). Ovulation occurs closest to the LAST day of lubricative mucus. Then it will dry up abruptly. You don't have to be totally dry, but should notice a change to feeling significantly drier than before. The LAST day of slippery mucus is called the Peak day. Ovulation usually occurs on the Peak day, the day after, and up to two days after. Your temp will rise after ovulation occurs, so usually pretty close to the mucus dry up. Sometimes temps can take an extra day or two to "catch up" and rise in response to progesterone produced after ovulation. Quantity is not important, it's the QUALITY of the mucus that matters. In other words, it doesn't matter if there is hardly any of it or if it's falling out in big globs...what you feel is more significant. When you stop feeling wet and slippery, then you can be reasonably sure ovulation is happening or has just happened.

Wow, I didn't know all that! Thanks!

In that case, if I saw the most EWCM on the 17th but felt wet for 2-3 days after, and I usually have a 29-31 day cycle (AF due to show on the 31st if its a 29 day cycle) and we BD'd with no protection on the 20th....what are the chances of an oops?

We're planning on TTC next month so it would be a pleasant surprise if there is a chance. Man...its amazing how you grasp straws when TTC

Oh, and o/t how accurate are those gender prediction methods like the Shettles and stuff?

Well anytime cervical mucus is present (even if just a wet or slippery feeling) - conception is possible, and for 3 days after it disappears. Sounds like you've got a decent chance of an oops, but without a chart it's hard to evaluate for sure. That's just a guess!

Shettles can increase your chances of getting a certain gender, but it's not a guarantee because so much depends on the individual health of both man and woman too. It's fun to try to increase your odds of a certain gender, as long as you're comfortable with whatever gender you wind up with!
