Where would I begin? What kind-of thermometer would I need to buy?

I honestly have no idea what I even do!!

I know that you take your temperature every morning... do you have to take it the first time you wake up?
I wake up for a few minutes when my husband leaves for work most days, but then I go back to sleep. Would I need to take it the first time I wake up, even if I only went to bed a few hours before?

You could read any of the following charting/fertility books to get the basics:

Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler
Billings Method by Dr. Lyn Billings and Ann Westmore

And if you need more in-depth information than that, you can take a class, do correspondence course, or meet with an instructor for private training (highly recommended if you plan to use charting to TTA).

Definitely read TCOYF!(Taking Charge of Your Fertility). It explains everything very well.

You will need to get a basal thermometer and take your temp at the same time every day after at least 3 solid hours of sleep. You take your temp before you move, talk, kiss, etc. That is the most basic part of it.

and welcome! I know if you're interested in using Fertility Friend's charting program, they have a course that you can take to learn how to chart.

Good luck!
