put the thermometer on the left side, right side, or right in middle under tongue??

I think I have almost always stuck it off to the right side, sometimes the left, but I got to wondering and this morning I temped the right and the left and got two different temps...

Left = 98.2
Right = 97.8

why the hell do I get two different temps - is that normal - and which should I be using??

I don't know if there is a "right way", but I am new at this!
I temp in the middle of my tongue... but like I said, I'm new so that probably doesn't help much.

I temp on my right side, towards the back.

I had a chart that came with the BBT telling you where to put the thermometer. It says to put it way in the back on either side of the tongue. I don't think I get it as far back as the chart suggests.

But, the chart said to make sure you stay consistant. So, if you temp on your right in one spot, keep temping there. That way you see a reliable temp shift because it will be consistant.

I temp in the left thermal pocket when I temp orally.

Either way you temp, you have to do it the same way all throughout your cycle, or your temps won't be consistant.

This got on my nerves...because I couldn't get it back where they "say" to temp...so I finally found a spot in a crook of my teeth that's easy to find and be consistent in. I think the overall point is consistancy.

May I ask which temp you took first? Did you take the left side second? Because that may explain the difference. I have found that even if I temp the exact same way, usually the second temp is slightly higher.
