Hi!

I am 27 years old and my DH is 32. We are TTC our first child together; but we each have a 5 year old from a previous relationship. My DD will be 6 this spring!

So we have been TTC for 2 months now, but last month was the first month I charted. (Although I charted with my DD 6 years ago....she took 8 months to conceive.)

I went to my OBGYN (first time seeing this guy, sadly, my old OB passed away last year. )

I do not like this new guy!

After ONE FRIGGIN' month of charting, he referred me to an infertility clinic??????????!!!!!!!

I brought my chart w/me to show him and he said any cycle longer than 30 days, and I am probably not ovulating??? and that CD 17 is too late to be ovluating? and my luteal phase is too short, it should be at least 14 days.

I BAWLED the whole car ride home.

I am so upset. My DH is really pissed, and upset for me, but he also doesn't know too much about charting/temping....

I'm going to try to post a link to last month's chart---I don't know how on earth this dr. could say it was annovulatory??? It looks ok to me?

any advice or input would be most welcome! Thanks and baby dust to all!

girl, your doc is NUTS! Your cycle looks great!!!!! My doc considers anything form 21-35 days normal for cycles, and as long as your LP is longer than 10-11 days you are good. I hope you can conceive quickly!

Ok, I'm sorry but that doctor doesn't have a CLUE about fertility. This is not uncommon. I repeat, this is not uncommon!!!!!

A normal cycle is considered anything between 21-35 days. That said, cycles which are longer than that are not automatically annovulatory. MANY women (myself included) do not ovulate until much later than normal and have no trouble conceiving. I have children conceived as a result of ovulation CD58, CD50, and CD 38 (the one I'm carrying right now). Your cycle ends before I even ovulate!!! Ovulating by CD17 is perfectly normal, healthy, and no reason to be concerned!

A short Luteal Phase is anything under about 11 days. 11-16 days for an LP is completely normal.

Don't waste your time with a doctor who doesn't know what he's talking about. You can't determine that a woman is annovulatory based on the length of her cycle - you can only determine that by monitoring many cycles through charting, or through daily vaginal ultrasouds or daily blood draws to evaluate your hormonal activity. The reason I say many cycles, is because some women will have a mixture of annovulatory cycles and ovulatory ones. Just because some of them are annovulatory doesn't mean you can't conceive during the ovulatory ones!!!!

Your cycle last month looks great! And, am I crazy, but it looks like your cycle was right at 30 days?!?!?

Anyway, you need to find someone new to go to. I find myself sometimes in our office correcting the midwife I work for about fertility charting. She knows a lot more than most dr's do, but still. LOL!

Anyway, I wouldn't take it to heart. MOST dr's will make you wait a year before they refer you to an infertility dr.

Good luck!

i agree with what the others have said. that doc is nuts! looks to me like a good 30 day cycle which is perfectly normal.
if you click on the link to my chart for this month (it isnt finished) and my doctor is perfectly happy (albeit a little confused about why im not getting a bfp from it!)
i defo think you need to find someone else. a doctor telling you something like that after 1 month is certainly not going to help your state of mind for ttc!
hope you feel ok about it all soon
xx sarah xx
