Take a look at my chart as I explain the situation...

First, let me say this is the first full month that I've had a BBT, so I've never really charted before. How long after a temp drop do you usually expect AF? My cycles vary from 21-33 days, but they're usually 26-27. I find it very odd that I O'd on day 15. I expected more like 17-18. AF hasn't shown yet, but my temp dropped a lot today.

Second, my doc thinks I might have a LPD. He tested my progesterone on Thursday, but I don't have the results yet. (He tests 7-8 days after a + OPK rather than a particular day of a standard cycle, because no one knows what your standard cycle really is.) Is it possible to have normal progesterone levels Thursday but still get AF on day 9-10 rather than day 14-ish? That would be a LPD, right? 9 days isn't long enough. I also don't understand why my LH surge tends to last 3 days. It's always been that way. I hear other people saying theirs is only 1-2 days. (When I record a + result, it's because the test line is darker than the control line. It's the same or more faint several days during the cycle, but I call that a - result.)

I'm not sure how much pregnancy affects early progesterone levels, but let me say I "know" I'm not pg this month.

Edit - scratch that. AF just showed. 9 DPO.

A normal LP is between 10 and 17 days - this is a very good article on it.

Have you tried VitB6? I've been taking it since Oct - Oct LP was 12 days, Nov was 13. Dec was a funk as I was sick

I used to be between 9 and 11 days. I take 50mg B6 daily along with my folic acid. Might be worth looking into!

Yeah, I'm already taking that. My doc said he'd put me on progesterone and/or clomid if my progesterone test comes back between 0-10. He said it should be over 10. Can it be over 10 and still give me AF 9 DPO, though?

it could be over 10 and it still be a fluke. the only TRUE way to know is after several cycles charting and repeated blood tests. I usually say give it at least 3 cycles charting unless the first two are BOTH under 10 days.
good luck!

I did OPK's with Ben. We TTC a year for him. I didn't understand anything about charting, but I knew it look longer to get a + OPK than it did to get AF afterwards. I'm guessing I had a short LP with him as well. I've had 7 m/c that I know of. The doc thinks there may have been more (or chemical pg's).

I know exactly what you're going through. I have(had) a LPD...at first, my doctor put me on Clomid.

That worked somewhat the first cycle, as I got pregnant, but miscarried at 5 weeks 2 days.

I did two more rounds of Clomid, before consulting with another doctor, who said to try progesterone supplements. They are given in a pill form, and although I was supposed to take 400 mg a day, split up, it made me tired, so I only took 1 200mg at night. I started that a few days after I KNEW that I had Od, as it can cause you to not ovulate. It definitely did the trick!

That's generally the standard "treatment" for LPD, at least in the office that I work in. It's simply, has the least side effects, and I personally think it works great!

Anywho, just wanted to let you know I've been there. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Good luck!

It's official. The nurse called and said my progesterone Thursday was only 8, so she's going to talk to the doc and see what Rx he wants to call in tomorrow (whether just progesterone or paired with clomid).

YAY! I mean, not YAY for LPD, but YAY that your doctor is getting right on it and you know what's going on.

It can only get better from here, I hope!
