I hope this isn't a dumb ?, but I have to go for CD21 progestrone test next cycle since I have had two early losses in a row. My temps after O are always high (high 98.9s or 99s) so I thought my progestrone must be good.
Thanks! [/b]

Charting can help you get a more accurate progesterone reading actually. The CD21 test is based on the idea that women ovulate around day 14 (so they want to check progesterone levels 7 days later, on CD21). Ironically, only 12% of women ovulate around day 14. So charting can tell you when you *really* did ovulate, so that you can get an accurate progesterone test 7 days later - no matter what cycle day it happens to be.
Here's why this is so important. Say a woman is prone to longer cycles and hasn't even ovulated by CD 21. Obviously, a progesterone test on CD21 is not going to be accurate at all for her. She may not ovulate until CD23, but when she does - her progesterone levels are completely healthy. Or say a woman ovulated on CD19. By CD21, her progesterone levels will appear too low, but only because they are testing based on what levels should be at 7DPO, not 2 DPO!
Other ways that charting can help identify low progesterone is if you have brown pre-menstrual spotting, or if your Luteal Phase is shorter than 11 days. Temperatures don't really indicate normal or low progesterone though, the length of the Luteal Phase is more significant.
Hope that helps!
