My DH and I have been TTC #3 since November with no luck. AF last showed up on 2/6/08 and hasn't shown her ugly face since. I've had 3 BFNs, one of which was a blood test so we're pretty sure I'm not pregnant. I decided to start charting to figure out what has been going on since I've already been tracking my symptoms. I put in the information on the symptoms which I've been collecting since 2/25/08, but I didn't take my first temperature until this morning. I'm going to keep taking it around the same time every morning. Are there any patterns I could watch for to help me spot AF coming up? Or anything else that might be going on? My temp was 97.1 this morning which I'm sure must've been high. Normally I register in the 96 range when I'm awake and active, though a few times I've taken it mid day just to take it and had it near 100 without any symptoms of illness. I'm completely confused and really need some guidance. Thanks.

There are ways you'll know AF is coming. First of all, once you have a few charted cycles completely you can identify how long your Lutea Phase usually is. This is the number of days from ovulation until menstruation. An LP between 11-16 days long is considered normal, but it should remain fairly consistent for the same woman. For example, my LP might be closer to 11 days and that's normal for me - and your LP might be closer to 16 days and that's normal for you. It's shouldn't fluctuate much from cycle to cycle. Once you know that, then you can predict exactly when AF will arrive once you confirm ovulation each cycle.

Temperatures can also help. When ovulation occurs, progesterone levels rise and this makes your temps rise. When progesterone levels drop, that makes menstruation arrive - and it also makes your temperatures drop again. Some women get a day or two of warning because their temps drop first. But sometimes the temp doesn't drop until after AF arrives too, so you can always count on your LP to warn you!

Well, keep tracking this cycle because if you haven't ovulated yet - you might still catch it! I've ovulated as late as CD60 before, and many women have ovulated much later than that even. One chart I it was CD81.

I'm definitely going to keep going on it. It's giving me something to focus on other than AF being so late.
