My husband and I have been married for a year now and not using any protection, but have not gotten pregnant. I have gone to my doctor, and he is a jerk! He has basically blown us off on this subject becuase he believes I am too young. Anyone have advice on things to do to get pregnant? Can anyone give me an estimate on how much fertility drugs are? I am VERY irregular, so this probably is working against us!! Any help would be great, we really want to start a family!

Well first off I would want to slap your doctor. I have been in your shoes. I started trying a year after i was married, but that whole year we never used protection. We both wanted kids and thought when it happens it meant to be. So after a year and nothing i started to wonder since my periods weren't exaclty normal. I told her that we have been having unprotect sex for a year and nothing. I told her i wanted to be checked because we are serious about it now. She just looked at me like i was stupid and told me that i am young and healthy and should worry about it. That it will happen when its time. OH, man i thought i was going to jump right up and smack her. She told me to give is six months and also start charting. I asked her about it and she was like i will get my nurse. She was so rude! So I did and nothing. So i decided to see a obgyn and i loved him. He took me serious. I told him my story. He gave me some pamplets and said anytime you have quesions call me. I mean you have to find the right doctor. someone who will take you serios. I have been trying for 3 years. In the end i was my husband. he had a varicocele, a block vain. Your husband should get check i waited two years cause it thought i was me.
But charitng is very helpful. you really need to take time to understand your body. like when you find that white stuff that is when you should be having sex. I don't really keep a chart to do my stuff because i am like you where i could be on time from the last month or a week early or late. I usually right down when it starts and cound about 10 days after and make sure i have sex around then. really don't let all the charting mess with you. I did and it became my worst nightmare. that advice i gave you came from my fertility doctor. i also don't get up right after sex either. also i try and be very easy on my body when i think i am ovulating. the best thing i can tell you is get to know your body and write down how you feel and find a doctor you like and can trust. someone who treats you with care.

I am just afraid my insurance will not cover an OBGYN! I know that it covers my family doctor(who is a jerk). Also, I don't even know if it will cover my husband getting checked or any kind of fertility stuff.

First, welcome to the boards. Your insurance *should* cover appointments with an OB/GYN I think. At least for a well woman exam, (and they can slip in a few tests if they code it right). Most insurances are starting to at least cover testing too, and even if it doesn't you might want to check with a local clinic and find out how much a semen analysis is. I was shocked to find out we could get it done at our family doctor for around $60!

Good luck with TTC! I hope you get some answers soon.

Wow do i know how you feel or what!!! I went for my regular check up last month and of course she wanted to talkto me about BC, like always. I told the nurse and the Dr that i didn’t want BC. They were both so rude about it and think i should wait until i am finished with nursing school or at least 4 months before graduatation. well hello, i have not been using protection for nearly a year and nothing has happened so it jsut might be 4 months before graduation before i actually get pregnant. And excuse me but is this not my life???? I strongly believe in God and faith and have prayed about TTC since the day we decided to go for it, and I know he will not give me more than i can handle! I left there almost in tears. It was hard enough fr me to tell someone that I was actually TTC bc i have been so cautious with that since I fear there could be a problem and don’t want to have to face that and they just made me feel so much worse! I have always wanted to be a mommy since i was a toddler playing with baby dolls LOL. And I am tired of putting it off for school or whatever else; i would hate to know i prevented the one thing I truly want in life to find out i missed my chance! So needless to say I got brave and called another Drs office to make an appointment to make sure there is nothing wrong with me. I am scared to death to go and praying I will get a BFP before my appointment since it is scheduled the day i expect AF. I just don’t know where these people come from being so noncompassionate with their patients! That is completely opposite of what they teach in school! Anyway I also chart my temps and this month have started checking my CM more religiously and trying to understand the whole cervix position stuff.....I think it is helpful to understand and know your body better! But good luck to you and I would definitely go see another Dr if you can.
