My husband and I brought our first child into the world Aug 22, 2008, and planned to wait until March 2010 to try for #2....Gordon (our son) spent the night with my parents for the first time last week, and when I was on my way home from picking him up my husband called. He said, "You need to quit nursing and have your Mirena removed." I was shocked, because he was the one who had insisted on waiting!! I made the appointment to have the IUD removed Thursday morning.
I have not menstruated yet, but my OB says it might be a side effect of the IUD. So, instead of completely weaning Gordon, I am going to see what happens first. I think I will stop one feeding a day, and do it gradually...My original goal was to breastfeed until he is a year, so maybe I can work slowly for the next few months.
We will see how it goes. The first time was so easy, I am afraid that it will not be this time.
