I always shoot raw now. Even snapshots. I am so scatterbrained that I am afraid I will forget to change it back over to raw for photo shoots so I just leave it. Lightroom makes it easy enough that it wouldnt save me any time to use jpg anyway.
Does Lightroom "preview" the RAW files for you before you open them?
Yeah, you open lightroom, pop in your memory card and you can pick and choose which images you want to import. Then you can do your adjustments like fixing white balance and exposure and even some more complicated ones. After that you just select which ones you want to export and choose where to save them along with custom file names, file type and image size settings. It's really handy because you don't even have to use photoshop unless its extensive editing. I love the file naming because then each client can have their name on the image file, it looks more professional. You can get file renaming software to do the same thing, its just built into LR.
Another great thing about LR is if it happens to crash or your power goes out you can open it back up and everything will still be there, it automatically saves as you go. So any adjustments you make to the images before exporting will be saved.
