Hi all!

My name is Sarah. My DH (we're newlyweds after years of trying to get together) and I are expecting our first child together at the end of October! (He has an almost 10 year old son and I had a stillborn baby girl who would be almost 9 by now.)

I swear I used to be good at photography, but my skills have dwindled so badly in recent years. I went from a Pentax 105-R to the digital my mom bought but couldn't figure out (Sony Cyber-shot 2.0 megapixels). It's a rather pathetic camera now (was cooler when I got it like 3 years ago) and I was doing fine with it, but clearly with a baby coming we need something much better! I was reading some of your posts but most of you have cameras we just can't afford right now. I don't need anything AMAZING, just much better. Sure, ideally a lovely digital SLR would make me very happy, but not for now (I'm also hoping maybe my dad will make the camera my baby present.)

Anyone have any recommendations? I'm looking at staying under $300 (US)

(Am also looking into getting a camcorder if anyone has any suggestions.)

Thanks all!

I have a cannon powershot A520 and it is great it was under 200 dollars and takes great pictures at 4 megapixels. Hope that helps.

Hi Sarah!!!

I don't have any specific camera advice expect maybe sticking with a Canon or Nikon...but all I have is my DSLR, so I don't know about one in particular. An excellent site for you to check out would be http://www.dpreview.com/ when you have some time...it would give you a lot of great info and hopefully help you make the right choice.
GOOD LUCK and I hope you stick around here!!!
