Does anyone advertise other than word of mouth? I am thinking about stepping it up a notch to get more clients. I have done cards at the ped's office and my OB, I have given away free sessions at a raffle/auction...not sure what else to do.
You can put flyers in local grocery stores and banks. Or advertise some sort of "special" in the newspaper. OR..here is something that has starte dto be popular...do a "group" thing. Get one of your friends or someone to host a picture party in a good location, have htem invite their friends for no sitting fee or something, and have packages all worked out. Could be a good way to drum up some business.
I don't advertise much because I still work a full-time job, but if you can contact the local scrapbooking store and ask if you can do a photo shoot day you will drum up SO much business! I charged a $20 minimum that would be applied to their order. They weren't huge orders, but I got about 10 return clients for other shoots. Two that are annual regulars. It's good for your business and it gets people into the scrapbooking store. Plus, it will get your name out. You can also ask to do the same thing at boutiques. I've heard people have success doing that. Even if you don't have a photo day at the scrapbook store I'm sure they would allow you to hang a flier or two.
Another thing is go to daycares and preschools and pitch your plan there as well.
Ask your local hospital if you can add a flier to their new moms gift bag. Offer a free 8x10. You can also do this at your local OB/GYN offices. They usually give maternity patients a goodie bag.
