These are some pictures of my son Jacob from today. I just used my digital camera for this (which is not that great), but I would like some CC on the composition and lighting. I feel this inherent need to make him the center of every single photograph, which I know that I need to get away from. And as far as lighting...I haven't studied much on that yet. I kind of like the way that the sun was breaking through the trees, but do you guys find it distracting? Also, if someone could tell me how to get rid of the hotspots (when he smiles I always get them from all the drool in his mouth ), I'd appreciate it...I have Paint Shop Pro Studio, but I haven't really figured out how to use it yet.

Well, although the pics are cute, you have a lot going on as far as composition. I would choose either the flowers, the pumpkins OR the house as props/background. I would also not use the shirt he was wearing with the colors of the flowers or pumpkins. Plain, non-striped shirts would be better (my ds has the same shirt!). I keep away from the sun (full or spotty) at all costs, unless I am just doing snapshots.
With all that said, I like the first one the best. Imagine how it would look if he were wearing a navy or black shirt and jeans with those flowers in the background!

I agree.... I love the pumpkins but the flowers are distracting. The poses are great though. You really captured him well! He's a cutie!

These are really cute! Your son is such a happy boy and love that fuzzy head! I think the other ladies gave you great advice with the background, props, clothing, etc. There is just one more suggestion I'd like to add. In all of these shots he is smack dab in the center of the picture. Try off-setting him in the frame. Use the rule of thirds. I can't wait to see more of your pictures!

I like the photo of him discovering the pumpkin top. Other then that I just like looking at everyones photos lol as I am so new to the whole photo thing. I was impressed at the fact that these were taken with a digital camera though!

Being a beginner, I guess I don't have a very experience eye and thought your pictures were amazing! However... after the tips the other ladies had given, I tried to see if it would really have made a difference if there wasn't both the pumpkins and the flowers. (pls excuse my poor masquing job... I did it really fast as I just wanted to see what it would look like without the flowers...)
