I think I actually like the color version. Although both are nice. The arm does kinda have a floating feeling though, was the dad wearing a black sleeveless shirt, or no shirt...maybe more of the shoulder would help anchor it? I love the contrast though of the big arm with such a tiny, tiny.
The second b&w is wonderful! NJ! What a cute lil baby!

They are both so good! How do you get them to look so clean and crisp. The eyes are incredible! Mine never look that good!

I do agree with the floating arm thing although I didn't really take notice until you pointed it out.

What do you have the baby laying on in the second one?

No, I have no more shoulder or arm to play with. I had a bad experience asking a dad to take off his shirt, so I don't do that anymore. I think I like the color better too!

Clean and crisp...thank you! I guess I just attribute that to skill, great lighting and my 50mm1.8 lens. He was laying on just a plain old black background, with a quilt underneath for some cushion.

I don't think it looks like a floating arm, but the tats are way too distracting for me. I don't even look at the baby, I look at them.

The other one of the baby on its belly, the angle isn't working for me.

I like the conversion though

I probably should have mentioned that the picture of the tatoo is intentional, and I have plenty more where the baby is the one and only subject. I just wanted advice on whether you liked b/w or color better. I have decided to show the mom both though.
Thanks for all of the comments!

I forgot to mention I like the B&W
but both are great.
i could tell the tatts were intentional. Its like a bad ***** guy showing his sensitive side and love when it comes to his baby.

Thats how i feel anyway lol

I love that first one! It's so cute! I like the color one because of the tattoos. I love shots with tats in them like this. Great pose. Thanks for sharing! I'd love to see more from this shoot. Newborns are my favorite!

Paiton, that is exactly what I was going for! Thanks Amber! The mom just emailed me that they both love the shots! Here's a few more of my faves from this session.

It's funny how when a baby smiles, their whole bodies get into it!
