I've read a few posts and seen atleast 4 different Rebels mention (someone has 2 and getting another..Tabitha??) Which of these is the best camera for a non-professional photographer.

I've also heard Canon's mentioned a lot. What Canon's do you like the best and how do they compare to the Rebel(s)?

There is actually 3 Canon Digital Rebels, the 300d, 350d(rebel xt) and the 400d(the new rebel xti) There are two film Rebels that Canon has called the Rebel k2 and the Rebel t2. I have the digital xt and the film t2. I love them both!! I am getting ready to buy the xti hopefully in January. I really would love to have the Canon Mark II, maybe someday...

Now, to answer your question... the Rebel XT is a great camera. It has auto features as well as the manual features but in my honest opinion, you don't get as great photos as you would if you were using manual. The XT is 8MP and the XTi is 10MP, there are a few other differences also. The price of the xt has dropped a little since the xti came out, you can get it with a lens(18-55mm) for about 500 and the xti is about 1000. I really love canon cameras but I am not a huge fan of the lenses. I have a lot of Sigma and that's what I use.. the canon one does the job but I think that the quality between the two is significantly different.

If you don't know how to use manual features or if you're not looking to spend a lot. The Canon powershots are great also. My best friend has one and I really like it. You can also get lenses and accessories for it.

I hope this helped =)

I'm a rebel XT owner and I LOVE it. you can use the automatic settings until you get comfortable with the manual settings. They are great because someone who doesnt know as much about cameras can still use them and learn on it.
with a compact you are pretty limited since there isnt much room for learning.

d-uh what a doofus, I sound like asking to compare canon to the rebels...lol, I meant rebels to the powershots!

Thanks for the replies.

I have a kodak easyshare C340 (digital) and a Pentax 500 (film) which is 100% manual. Not saying I know a whole lot about manual though.
I do get a lot of comments on the photos I take with it.
