Hi everyone. I am really just wanting to vent & hoping that maybe someone has been in a similar situation and could shed some light for me. I have had 3 miscarriages in the past, first in Dec '06, then May '07, then Dec '07. After the last mc, my ob/gyn referred us to a fertility specialist to seek a reason for our recurrent mc's. They ran the full panel of tests....chromosome check, blood tests, HSG, etc....everything came back normal except the fact that I have a mututated MTHFR gene & blood clotting condition. This I already knew prior to my 3rd mc, and was treating it with Lovenox injections during my 3rd pregnancy.

Anyhow, we found out in September that we were pregnant again...went for my 7 week ultrasound & everything looked good. My progesterone levels were excellent. Baby's heartbeat was about 120. They had me taking a prenatal vitamin, 1 mg folic acid, baby aspirin, B12 & B6 supplements, as well as a Lovenox injection daily & progesterone suppository (just in case) twice a day. I had a few episodes where I'd have some brownish/pinkish discharge. I, of course, called the dr each time & was always told that it was not anything to be concerned about. Well, I went back for my 2 wk f/up today. The baby measured 9 wks 4 days, but the heartbeat was very very faint, almost gone. This is exactly what has happened with 2 of my 3 previous pregnancies. I go back Wednesday for another US, but they are almost certain the heartbeat will be gone.

The dr said that he sees no reason medically why this is happening. I can't help feeling like I've done something...is it something I'm eating, something I'm doing or not doing?? If there's no medical reason why this should be happening, what is going on???

Has anyone had a situation like this before??

Hugs. So sorry for your losses.
Are they planning on doing a D&C? If so, hopefully it can shed a light onto why it is happening.

Actually, I dont know. He didn't get into that today...I really don't care for the fertility doc I'm seeing..they tell you as little as possible, and just seem very unconcerned about things. But, he's the only one within 100 miles.

I've had d&c's with my last 2 mc's, and my ob/gyn sent the last one off for testing. But, they did not find anything from it...I do hope to have one this time though, I think. I just don't know if I can handle actually having to see everything right now. I'm sure they will discuss that Wednesday though, I hope.

I'm so sorry for your loss! It's so frustrating when it happens and you still have no answer to "why?" It sounds to me like you're doing everything you can. This is a great place for support.

Three years ago I could have just as easily posted this myself. I am homozygous for MTHFR, which means I have two copies of the mutated C677T gene, which was treated with Folic Acid, B6 and B12. I also had a m/c (twins) after starting treatment for it. I took baby aspirin but did not have Lovenox injections. Have you had your homocystine levels checked? Are you homo or heterozygous? Have you had an HSG xray? My problem turned out to be a problem with my uterus because I had a septum. Once the septum was removed I became pregnant within 10 weeks and had a nearly full term uneventful pregnancy. It seems to me that you are doing everything possible and I hope it's not long before you have your take home baby. Be good to your self and come here for any support you need.

Thank you all for the support

To answer your question...I only have one copy of the mutuated MTHFR gene, which they originally seemed to think would be easier to treat (I'm now beginning to wonder!). I have had the HSG done, but everything there looked normal as well. According to the fertility specialist, they have performed every test that could or should be done, so I guess I'm a medical mystery? The dr told me today that I should just keep trying...according to the "Medical data", it looks as though if we just keep trying we should eventually have a normal, healthy pregnancy...but then again, that's easy for them to say. They aren't the ones that has to keep going through it! :/

I never dreamed it would be this hard to have a baby, or I would have started trying sooner! (I turn 26 on Saturday, first mc just after I turned 24). Again, thanks everyone

I am so sorry that you are going through this again. It must be heartbreaking. I have had two miscarriages and they have not been able to tell me what went wrong either time (although I am still waiting for the results from my m/c on Saturday). They have done testing and cannot find anything wrong with me, so I understand feeling like you have done somthing wrong. I'm sure that you have done everything right and I hope that your doctors can find out what is really going on. Please KUP on your next visit.

child ment'd

I am so sorry that you are going through this. While trying to have my first child, I had 4 miscarriages. All were in the first trimester. They were able to find no reason for my miscarriages. Although, they were able to test the last one which showed a Trisomy 6 or extra copy of chromosome six. Two RE's I went to thought that the others were probably due to chromosomal issues so even though I was under 30 I was making abnormal eggs. There thought was that eventually it would happen, but we all know how horrible it is to go through these losses. Anyway they also suggested doing IVF and PGD. PGD would test my fertilized embryos for possible chromosomal problems only putting the "normal" ones back into me. Granted this method is not fool proof. They could only test for 12 chromosomes and it would not have caught my Trisomy 6, but I knew this going into it. Somehow a miracle occurred and after 4 years of trying had my DS. It is so hard not to give up hope and even harder when there is no real reason for the losses. I wll send some thoughts and prayers your way.

Michele

I am very sorry for your losses! Ladies give you good advices and I will only add that it is recomended to make kariotypyng on baby (chromosome test) as that can help doctors with medical strategies for the next try.
Hugs!

I am so sorry for your losses. Many women on here have had numerous losses (even when doing the "right things" to help "correct" issues found through tests, and still have losses after. I wish I knew why - but also many of them go on to have healthy babies if they do keep trying. I know that sounds so simple - "keep trying" - and it is ANYTHING but simple - but sometimes it is the only way to get there. I started at JM in Jul 2005 after my 1st mc & when I was nervous to start TTC. I then had my next mc in Aug 2005. At that time there weren't many women on here that had recurrent loss - at least not that i was aware of. Over time I got to know many ladies that had multiple losses & then they broke off & opened this board. I can honestly say that the vast majority of ladies I have known from earlier on, now have take home babies. It took some times & a LOT of hurting to get there - but perseverance IS the most important thing in obtaining that healthy pg & healthy baby. There are no shortcuts unfortunately. I lost 4 babies that are confirmed before I had my DS - on top of that I am fairly certain I had at least one unconfirmed mc on top of that - that I was just in such a bad place emotionally at the time I refused to take a HPT to confirm & I did not go to the Dr when I was cramping & bleeding heavily. Unfortunately - for women experiencing RPL, no amount of medical intervention can guarantee us anything - but if we can hold strong & not give up hope, there really is a good chance that you will beat the odds eventually.

I am very sorry for all you ahve been through. I hope that you find love, support & understanding here & I hope more than anything that you get that take home baby very soon!
