OKay, they were supposed to operate at 2 PM, but they had a few carry over surgeries and it took ALOT longer, include one NICU baby that was right before us. That baby was so precious. I know nothing about her but I am praying for her right now as well.

When we met with the surgeon he told us that they were going to take out a good chunk for the pathologist to review out of his neck area because that was the easiest and safest to reach. He said it was going to be no problem, very easy.

When we met the anastesiologist he told us that any thing was going to risk Joey's airway (general or local) and that local was the safest option but there was a chance they would be unable to ventilate him and he would not make it out. We broke down. He tells us "you don't have to do this" My response was simple. If i don't do this I WILL lose him. I would rather risk a maybe than take a definate. Do the surgery, I will not lose him.

They finally took him back around 6 PM. They were also going to try for a central line, but because of how he was laying they couldn't get one.

Around 7 PM they told us he was out and being transferred to recovery, he was fine, they got more than enough to biopsy, they typically have results in about a week, but theres a small chance it will take longer.

Around 8:30 we got to take him back to his room, he was doing so well the floor felt he would be fine in his room and not OICU and so did his wonderful doctors.

We finally got him settled and asleep, it is now 10:30 PM here. Everyone else has gone home and I am going to catch some sleep soon.

Our Priest came and sat with us during the surgery. Joey has a Prayer Bear now and that went with him, as well as DH's St Christopher Medal. We've all signed his prayer bear.

I'm so glad he did well Traci! He's a little fighter, and he will continue to amaze us all with his strength. You will still have my thoughts and prayers until he's completely out of the woods!
