After going through dozens of tests on myself. We found that my DH has a balanced translocation chromosomes on 1 and 20. Meaning that bits of chromosomes 1 and 20 have switched places. We are going to see the genetic counselor to see what our options are. But I think our options are

1. Keep trying and hope we eventually have a successful pregnancy. Which isn't to attractive of a plan.

2. PGD and IVF which is SUPER expensive!

3. Get a sperm donor. Which is what I am leaning towards, because it is cheaper than PGD and less heartbreaking than trying blindly. But I would like to have my DH's babies.

What do you ladies think? Any input or comments are appreciated. I am shocked! I am also a little pissed that I went through all those tests for no reason.

You know...I think that the donor sperm is a good option. My first child was concieved that way and she is so amazing. Not that she wouldn't be...right? Well, it worked great...and I had a wonderful bfp the first month and Kenna 9 months later. As to the other options I do not know anything about ivf but I have heard it's really expensive...but it might be something you could consider....I just don't know any info on it at all....

Good luck!

I think whatever your heart tells you is right is the right answer! However, if you do end up doing PGD, I can say that you can get the minimum number of pairs tested (it's cheaper that way) because you already know which chromosomes to look for. Just covering #1 should be enough. Plus, after having gone through PGD, I can tell you that if an embryo is abnormal, chances are it will have abnormalities across the board, not just one pair. See my PGD report as an example:

I don't know if that helps at all, but if I'd known I would have gone with fewer panels! We did the max which was overkill.

We also considered adoption, which would have been wonderful too. Like I said, whatever your heart tells you!

*hugs* sweetie! I wish I had some good advice. I agree with Lisa though, you have to follow your heart. I hope the genetics counselor helps and you and your DH are able to come up with a solution that works best for your family.
