Found out yesterday from a nurse at Ryans doctors office that he has an abnormality on chromosome 21. I know that this means he is carrier for Downs syndrome. The only other thing that we know for sure is that it is not translocation. We are seeing a genetic counselor next week but does anyone know the odds of us having a normal pregnancy?

I wish I knew something about it to share with you, but I don't. I am, however, happy to see you guys are making progress in finding the problem. I am interested in hearing what the genetic counselor has to say.

My karyotyping was normal, so this isn't an area I know much about. I wanted to wish you luck though. Please let us know what the counselor has to say?

I feel much better now that we talked with the genetic counselor. Long story short.....she feels that our chances of having a child with downs syndrome are very low, the percentage of his cells that are affected are so low that its possible his sperm may not be affected at all-we can have his sperm tested to verify this but at this point the worst case is maybe 2% chance. Now we are back to waiting for the next couple tests I need to have done and go from there......kinda looking like the losses we have had are just bad luck.
