I had a miscarriage on Friday...I hemorrhaged and had to receive a blood transfusion. I got 2 pints. Now it is 1am Tuesday and I am still passing huge clots from time to time....is this too long? They had given me two rounds of cytotec in the hospital (I stayed about 24 hours). How long does tissue have to be in there for it to start to become a danger for infection?
I have an appointment at 10am Wednesday. I am unsure if I should just wait til then, or if I should call them in the office when they open at 8am (less than 7 hours from now).
I don't want a D&C, but I also don't want to get sepsis or anything..... I also still feel incredibly weak, and crampy, like there's more stuff in there ready to come out.
Any advice?

Considering you'd hemorrhaged on Friday, I'd probably call just to be on the safe side. Normally, I wouldn't be worried about the process taking several days but you've already lost a lot of blood.

I would also call.
I was passing clots up to a week post surgery (I had a suction curettage procedure as I refused to be put under for a d&c) and found out it was from a bleed. They had to go in and close it up (I think they cauterized it).
*hugs* I'm sorry you're dealing with this AND losing your baby

Well, the huge clots seem to have stopped. I passed some large tissue last night and that seemed to be the end of it....I think it may have been the baby...I can't imagine what else would be that large inside there..... So, I think I'm just going to wait til my appointment, unless something changes between now and then.
Anyways....another question...I got a blood transfusion in the hospital, 2 units. I still can't walk across the room without my heart beating like crazy, feeling short of breath and like feeling I have no energy. Im still awfully pale. Do you think maybe I need more blood? They also have me on Ferralet 90 (Iron). I have to remember to ask them what my hemoglobin even was...I know it was 10.8 pre-miscarriage...dunno what it was after all the blood loss, just that they said it was so low that they wouldn't let me go home without a transfusion...

Hon I understand that you're worried and want to get views but I think a doctor is the only one who can answer your question about whether you need more blood. I would call them and ask whether the way you're feeling is normal.
I'm glad you seemed to have passed most of what you needed to.

I called. They told me it can wait til my appointment tomorrow and that it's probably just low iron (no sh.it sherlock!!). I'm not fond of the woman who was in though....she is not my normal midwife. Grr. Yes, I really want to suffer longer than I have to... *sigh*

I hemmoraged after my last loss. I didn't get a transfusion, but it did take me a while to get back to myself. Make sure you are getting LOTS of fluid, if you dehydrate you won't get all the benefits of the new blood.

Sorry you're going through this on top of your loss.
I just wanted to mention that when I miscarried, I bled anywhere from 1-3 weeks. I hope what you're experiencing is normal.

I went to my appointment and my midwife (not the one I spoke with on the phone) immediately sent me over to l&d in the hospital for more fluid and blood. She said I looked like crap. My hemoglobin dropped to 7.5 again. So, I was not crazy....that's what it dropped to during my initial stay and what had prompted the original 2 units of blood. So, I ended up getting another unit of blood yesterday and am feeling much better....still weak, but a lot better. I spent the better part of the day there, and it was kind of nice to just lay there and be alone for a bit. It gave me some time to think, and I am much more hopeful about things now. I also found out that my HCG is already down to only 430, so I should be back to normal quickly. It dropped really fast.

I had a loss at 15 weeks with a D&C...I bled non stop after, but 3 weeks later I started to hemorrhage, and it went on for 12 days before I was so sick i had to go to the hospital...any way, it took me a few weeks to feel back to normal...I took extra iron to help, and tried to eat lots of red meat...I hope your feeling better soon!
