Today, we went back to see the medical genetics dr to get the autopsy report on our little Joshua who we lost in December at 17 weeks. We found out that he had Achondrogenesis type 2 - a lethal form of dwarfism. Many of you might remember that DH and I made the very tough decision to terminate the pregnancy after learning that our baby was not going to survive. We now have a sense of closure and some peace of mind knowing that we made the right decision. We will forever miss our sweet boy.
I honestly can't believe that we had such terrible luck. This genetic condition is caused by a dominant gene which means that it had nothing to do with our other losses. It was completely random. A person has a 1 in 40,000 - 60,000 chance of having this condition. For this to happen to us after suffering with recurrent miscarriage is very unlikely and yet it happened. The genetics department is doing some further tests on me and DH to see if they can find what caused our previous losses but it is probably just a shot in the dark. We will receive the results from these tests in a couple of months.
As always, I thank everyone here for their support. DH and I are not going to try to get pregnant again until this fall. We need to regroup and recover.
