Did any of you see the latest episode of Private Practice? If so, what did you think? That show never fails to bring me to tears!
For those that didn't see it, it was about a woman pregnant with a baby who had developed no brain. She goes ahead and carries him to term because she wants to donate his organs to desperate babies in need. The last episode revolved around his birth and the feelings of the doctors who performed the organ removal.

I really like this show. The last episode was very good, I think they really did a good job dealing with the subject matter. I always wondered if anyone else on this board watches it (I didn't for a little while because I found it too emotional). I have always hoped that one day they would touch on the RPL subject.

I think when I was in school there was the first case of an Anencephalic baby who the parents wanted to donate her heart. In the end they were not allowed to shut off life support until too late and the organs had deteriorated some what... I think I was about 11 or 12 at the time.
I wonder what the current laws are. In the TV story, they never received permission from the hospital lawyer to shut off life support but they did anyway - at least that was my understanding, I was interrupted a few times watching the show.

Thats right, they never got permission. I have no idea what the laws are either. Also, I wonder if they are different in Canada.

I watched it. it was very difficult season to watch, but I think they have done a great job covering a realm of topics, from Addi's infertility and adoption journey to the birth of Amelia's precious baby and subsequent organ donation.

I cheered when they showed him without his hat. I felt it was a huge step in informing the world how precious all babies are....even the ones that aren't quite "perfect"...
I loved that they showed him, too. He wasn't just a bag of organs to be donated, he was a baby.
