Hi ladies,

I am here looking for hope. I have a healthy 4 year old son and in April my daughter was stillborn at 39 weeks with no known cause. The doctors told us this was a "fluke" and we should not have any problems with a future pregnancy. Five months later we became pregnant only to lose this baby at 17 weeks in December. Again, everything looked normal though I am waiting for the official test results. I feel lost. I set up an appt with a RE for additional testing on me and DH. I know there is a good chance we will not get any answers and I do not know anyone that has personally gone through two losses like mine. I was hoping you ladies could give me some input.

Thank you,
Beth

*hugs* I'm so sorry to have to welcome you to our little group, I'm sorry for both of your losses.

I've only had early losses (9 weeks and less) so I cannot offer you that silver thread that I know you are desperately searching for. I've know a lot of people to have a stillbirth then go on to have a healthy baby. An old friend of mine lost her child at 27 weeks, then went on to have 3 healthy babies, another friend from this site lost her daughter just before 39 weeks and also has 3 healthy children now.

I'm hoping some of the other girls can chime in. If you haven't already, you might want to try the Stillbirth forum, they are sadly experts in the devastation that you're living through.

Thank you plan4fate. After losing my daughter at 39 weeks I met many women who went on to have healthy children after their own late pregnancy losses. However, now that I have lost a 2nd baby I do not know anyone who has gone through this situation. It makes me wonder if there is something going on with my body that I am not aware of.

When do you get the test results back from your second angel? While your first may have had no obvious signs, there may have been something with the second one.

You could starts by asking your doctor to have a full recurrent loss panel. Here they'd look at things like blood clotting disorders, thyroid conditions among other things. Most doctors tend to wait until 3 losses, but with two later losses, it's much different and they might be more receptive. An RE is definitely who you want to be in the hands of at this point.

Hi Beth.
I'm so terribly sorry about your losses. There IS hope.
Another specialist in the feild is a maternal-fetal medicine expert (aka perinatologist). Speak with your OB about this as maybe the MFM can review your records of your angels and recommend any testing for you and SO. Or at least give a professional opinion.
You're not alone.
I'm sorry.

Thanks ladies. I am meeting with a RE next week for additional testing. After I get those test results I will meet with a MFM doc. I did meet with a MFM after my first loss and I was told it was a "fluke." After the 2nd loss everything looked normal at fist glance and with a sequential scan I had a few weeks earlier so we are not expecting much.

My appt went well on Friday. I actually ended up meeting with two doctors. They both felt that I fit the clinical profile for someone with a clotting disorder but are running tests. They basically said that unless tests come back with something else, they will treat me for clotting though. Anyway, I had my blood drawn today - 23 tubes! The RE said he is testing me for pretty much everything known to man in 2013. I go back for the results in two weeks and am very anxious to see if they learn anything. They did do a ultrasound to make sure that my uterus is normal shaped and I will have to go back for a hysteroscopy after AF arrives - whenever that will be! Thank for checking in

I'm sorry you were exsanguinated! But I am so glad that there may be answers soon. Thanks for following up. Please KUP. Are you still taking prenatals? You probably need some iron from that mega blood draw!

I'm glad they're being proactive!!!! I love hearing doctors who jump right into finding what's happening!

Sorry about that blood draw. My biggest was 17 vials.... and I had to fast. When I got there one of the nurses was on her way to McDonalds and brought me back a milkshake and fries because she figured I was going to need it! But hopefully it brings you some of the answers you need to have a healthy baby!!

You should also have someone go back over the results for your losses... sometimes they don't realize that a blood clot could be the cause (especially in later losses), but it only takes one.

Thanks ladies. plan4fate- I actually thought to bring a snack with me, lol. This was also a fasting test so made sure to eat before I even left the room! They were very kind at the lab and told me to take my time and didn't rush me out. Also to your point, the RE said just because they didn't see a blood clot there could still be one somewhere. He basically said that unless they learn something else from the tests he thinks I should be treated for a clotting disorder next time.

I have a appt scheduled on Friday with the RE so I am hoping that I get my bloodwork results then. I did have an appt with the OB this past Friday and they confirmed that once again this baby looked normal and was another girl - so no answers just like my 39 week loss

What was the outcome at the RE? Have you received your clotting blood work results?

No answers yet. The clotting results were not in, but everything else looked normal. Hopefully I will get the clotting results soon. The RE wants to see the clotting results before he gives me his formal recommendations.

How long do those results take!?!
I am going for mine tomorrow. I'm nervous about the amount of blood- afraid to be dizzy and pass out...

They told me that the blood clotting ones could take awhile but expected to have them in 2 weeks or they wouldn't have scheduled the follow-up. Now I am just waiting for a call.

I did not get dizzy from the blood draw, but I did bring a snack with me that I ate before I left, just to be safe. Good luck!
