my OB called this morning and told me to find a new doctor. He's done what he can for my thryoid and doesn't know what else to do. So I see a new one next friday.

I'm going to ask for ACTUAL synthryoid.. not the generic. And see if that makes any difference. In 60 days my thryoid went from 10.8 to 10.3... on 125mcg levothyroxine! It should have gone down a lot more than that.

I'll update after my appointment, but I'm feeling awfully defeated... but I've got a few other concerns that I'm hoping they can address for me at the same time that my OB couldn't!

I'm really sorry, you must be so frustrated. I can't imagine taking that much synthroid without a response! I hope this new Dr can help you to bring it back to normal and answer your other questions.

I'm on the generic... and I'm starting to wonder if that's the problem. I'm going to ask for the brand name, regardless of price... or see if they can put me straight to Amour. I'd be willing to give the same dose as I'm on right now but with the actual brand name a try for 30 days and see if anything happens.

Appointment went well. I will have an rx for brand name synthryoid this week, bumping it up to 150mcg for 30 days, retesting on the 27th.

They got me a new OB, who deals with people like me. Needs an RE, but isn't quite ready to get there. I'm expecting a bunch of pricey bloodwork :/ but it needs to be done. Especially my sugars, if I have any hope of not becoming a diabetic I need help getting this extra weight off in ways that don't break me (physically).

I'm hoping the change to brand name med will help. If that doesn't help in the next 4-6m I'm going to have to find an endo. But since about 10% of people with thyroid disorders do not find success on generic medication, it's worth a shot despite the price jump.

They were so surprised that my old doctor didn't want to do ANYTHING for me. My chart is riddled with "needs to loose weight" comments. I seriously want to go slap him. I'd love to lose weight, but with a thyroid that isn't working, I would have to workout 2-3 hours a day and eat 1000 calories! Turns out, he's very frequently left because he won't help people until they meet his criteria of "acceptable condition for pergnancy".. like seriously?! I'm hoping the new OB is better... she's female at least.. I find females to be much more involved when it comes to girlie bits not working.. so here's hoping!

I'm glad the appointment went well - I hope the new medication works for you. I'm shocked at your old doctor's comments. Does he not understand the nature of your disease? The #1 symptom of hypothyroidism is weight gain. What an idiot.

It is.. but at the same time, too many people will just say "oh I have a thryoid condition, nothing will help" But I have lost (and managed to keep off) 15lbs (17 from when I started trying to lose last year).. with my levels going up and down. That is a HUGE accomplishment. The Dr I saw Friday is honestly surprised I have managed to keep the scale steady with my levels going down so slowly and was not surprised at all to hear that my weight did start going back up when I went from 5 to 12 in 2 months.

I'm like. Yes I have a thyroid problem. I do my best with my diet, and if my weight didn't cause so much leg and foot pain in my injured limbs I would probably get in a lot more exercise... but SOMETHING has to start the freaking weight loss because eating right just isn't going to cut it.

I'm slowly starting to lose some weight again. I've been bouncing between 219 and 222 for months, and it's slowly creeping back down. I'm guessing that's my levels going down again... which is odd because I'm still on the same dose as before (until tomorrow) on the generic... so I'm thinking something I was taking... even though I researched the hell out of everything.. was affecting it. We will just have to see what my Labs say at the end of the month.

To lose weight while being hypothyroid is a HUGE accomplishment. You should be proud of yourself. I hope the new meds work for you. It will make you feel so much better and it will be easier to lose weight. I know how much you want to get healthy and start TTC again.

Still no RX apparently Walmart is having issues. I'm pretty sure I'm just going to start asking for paper Rx's so I don't have to deal with the Walmart computer system BS! GAH!!!

I'm going to only have little over 3w on the new med before my next draw at this rate :/ (since I drive 2.5 hours each way for labs, they have to be done around when I'm in town... I have to be in town on the 27th for a Dr. Appt and Reme's parent teacher..)

Back in August I'd ok'd a new supplement over the phone with my OB.. DIM. He thought it was worth a try and had been doing some reading on it.

Why neither of us put two and two together I will not understand. At the end of august my weight went back up, and my next tsh draw was more than double of what it had been.

I stopped the dim Jan 31st at the suggestion of the new GP... and I've lost 6.6lbs in 16 days. O_o.. I look forward to seeing what my TSH does when I have the draw done on the 27th. I'm also curious to see what my weight does between now and then.
