I had my third miscarriage last week - i had two, then a healthy pregnancy, then another m/c.

My DH and I are going for genetic counseling tomorrow.

I've had all other kinds of testing done in the past and they can't find anything wrong. My dr. even said that sometimes it's just bad luck since I've had one healthy pregnancy. This past m/c was a blighted ovum. Not sure about the other two.

Has anyone done genetic counseling? If so, what does it consist of? I'm hoping they'll do some bloodwork tomorrow, but I'm not sure what to expect.

We've had several go through it, but they may not be online until this evening. You might search back through the last couple of board pages to see what you can find. I'm checking in quickly from work or I'd gather up the posts for you.

For us - hte genetic testing literally consisted of a single vial of blood for each of us... (I thin it was one) - but either way - it was only 1 time we had our blood drawn, I know that. We were found to have a chromosomal abnormality from those tests...so I am not certain if they hadn't found it if there would have been additional tests - or if what we received is everything you normally would get. It took about 3 weeks or so (if I remember right) to get our results back as they had to be sent to a lab out of state for the testing in our case. I am not certain if it's usually any quicker - but I definitely would expect a minimum of 2 weeks at the earliest before you could possibly have results. I don't know how much that helps. I wish you all the best on your testing & am so sorry for your losses.

For us, the genetic part was only 1 vial of blood apiece. However, at the same time I also had blood tested for clotting problems, thyroid, I think diabetes, and a few other things that unfortunately I can't remember. It was 5 vials of blood total for me, and one for DH.
My clotting test came back abnormal, so they sent me to the hospital to take 5 more vials of blood, which they determined was normal and said that I am fine. Just wanted to let you know that even if they find an initial result that is bad, it may not turn out to be anything.
Hope this helps. I think some of the other ladies here have had diffferent things tested as well.

DH & I went for testing last month but we were told we would have to wait few months for those results. In Ontario, genetic testing for m/c isn't on the top of the list and other things take preference (i.e. cancer testing, amnio's, etc). We each had a vial of blood taken for the genetic and chromosonal testing, but then I was also tested for other conditions and disorders (i.e. lupus, blood clotting, etc) and had 15 vials of blood taken at once. DH had 8 vials taken, and he was tested for a lot things as well.

We get the results this Monday, but I doubt the genetic results are back yet. August was a rough month and we felt like lab rats for a few weeks but it'll be worth it in the end to rule out things or find out we're healthy.

Good luck...
