I have been using hypnobirthing techniques for months throughout my pregnancy. I have fallen asleep to the tapes every night and practice a few times a day. Just in the last few days I have been having a lot of contractions and at night when I go to listen to my tapes they drive me crazy! I can't stand the voice now and I just want to hurl it across the room! What is going on with me? Why are they all of a sudden bugging me and I can't focus? Does this mean I am going to fail at having a natural labor and birth? I am so frustrated with myself. I feel like I can still relax on my own and breathe through the contractions but I just can't listen to those voices anymore! Is that normal?

I'm sure it's pretty normal! I didn't listen to any tapes but I can see that happening if I did. You also get very hyper sensitive while in labor, so it's hard to say what you may like at the time.

It does NOT mean you won't get your natural childbirth. Not at all. try to be easy on yourself!

I know Carrie did hypno birthing, hopefully she will have some insight for you.

GOOD LUCK!

I totally had to put away my hypno-birthing tapes for the last several months because I wanted them to specifically be "fresh" when I pulled them up during labor. I am not a BTDT mom but I might suggest giving them a rest until labor and then your body will more than likely fall into the hypno response because you have laid the ground work for relaxation!

Maybe instead of listening to the tapes you can have your partner read one of the scripts or listen to different music and try and relax without them!

OMG this totally happened to me when I was in labor. We spent so much time practicing hypnobirthing scripts and records dozens to our computer for the big day. As soon as the hard contractions started I wanted nothing at all to do with them. I still had my natural childbirth so I think it was all the practicing that worked. You'll do fine!

Whew, glad to know it's not just me! I think I'll put them away then and maybe try music or something for the time being. I am not in full labor yet but have been contracting for several days and have found I am hyper sensitive to everything! Arg! Thanks for the responses.

Hopefully the music helps you relax over the next few days until your LO arrives. I can't wait to hear that you're really in labor!

Well, I didn't have this happen when I went into labor but I think you are going to be fine. From the sound of things, you have done a lot of practice. I say put the tapes aside and just use what you have learned so far to relax.

I will be honest. I practiced Hypnobirthing all during my first pregnancy and when I was in labor I kept telling them to turn off the CDs because they were KILLING me. I wanted to throw them out the window! I would put them up until labor starts. Don't use them too soon in labor either. Try other relaxation techniques first.
