I asked my midwife about it at my appointment on Monday and she seemed pretty impartial to it. She said it won't hurt anything if I wanted to take it, but there really aren't any studies to show it can help either. I took it with Abigail from 36 weeks on, I think orally at first, then I inserted the capsules the last 2 weeks. I was effaced and dilated before labor, so it's hard to say if it had an effect. What are your thoughts on it?

interesting. My midwife told me to take it, but I have heard that many OB's don't have much stock in it, unsurprizingly. I tend to think it's good to use, I didn't really have too much going on before my labor, but things went fast once they started.

since it can't hurt, might as well!

I took it during my last pregnancy starting at 34 weeks, and when I had to be induced at 37 weeks I was 2 cm dialated, can't remember how much effaced. My labor went pretty smooth and I never got "stuck" dialating or anything like that. I'm taking it again this time, it's supposed to be good for your joints too I think.

I took it orally from 36wks and swticthed to internally at 37 or 38 weeks (4 capsules at night with a hole poked in each one with a needle). I would lay down and contractions (braxton hicks, whatever) would start about 10 minutes later and last for a few hours. Not strong, but they were there. I don't remember my effacement and dilation... By the time I realized I was in labor I was 4-6cm dilated.

I started taking it orally, like you said, it can't hurt, right? I think putting it in vaginally has more effect though, I know I did that with the last pregnancy. Is it 38 weeks you can start doing that? I've read conflicting information.

Vaginally does work best, however what works even BETTER than EPO is semen.... it's more "concentrated" and has the same "chemical" in it that the EPO does... LOL! (And the semen can be taken vaginally or orally too! LOL!)

LOL, I think semen works best vaginally too though

Actually, sex put me into labor last time, and I'm more than prepared to give it a try this time too. My contractions started about an hour after we got done and she was born 8 hours later. Note to self though: Do it in the morning, not at night. I'd much rather be in labor after a good night's rest!

I talked about it with my Dr at my last appt and she gave me the go ahead to start taking it orally at 35 weeks (2 capsules per day) then at 37 weeks she said to start inserting 2 capsules up there as far as they can go right before bed time.
I haven't started taking them yet.. I've heard that they work best when taken orally, though.

I'd be more up for using semen (internally ONLY ) but sex is soo uncomfortable I haven't been able to for almost 5 weeks now. ughhhhh

I hope it works for you, Andrea!

The EPO works better when inserted vaginally because the oil is hitting the cervix right on. I couldn't have sex last time... 1.) DH felt too weird once I got a huge belly and 2.) His penis couldn't fit in because Kailey's head was down so low. LOL!!!!!!!

I took EPO orally and inserted vaginally after 38 weeks. On my due date I wasnt effaced at all and was maybe dialated to a 1. So it didnt help me at all. I had her a week late but oh well. It didnt hurt either. *shrugs shoulders*
