Today marks the 1 week mark, and I have to admit, I'm starting to get a little nervous. I thought that knowing what to expect would make it easier, but I'm not sure that it does. I keep thinking, what if the pain gets really bad, what if the techniques I'm using don't work? Baby girl is still posterior, so it looks like I will probably go into labor that way. I'm hoping she turns during labor, but what if she doesn't? I guess most of my fears are related to the unknown. I dont' know when I'll go into labor, or how long my labor will be, or if any complications will arise.
How did you calm yourself down as you approached the end?

do you meditate at all? That might be good. Personally I tend to nod off if I get too relaxed.

Do you have the Ina May guide to childbirth at your house? Maybe reading those beautiful stories could help.
I was pretty nervous myself, so I don't have good advice, sorry.

Andrea- you're not helping me any over here! LOL I guess I am really on the opposite side of the fence- I don't know what to expect and I guess I am just too ignorant to be fearful. All I know is that I am so darn tired of being pregnant that I don't care how bad it will hurt. It's actually quite exciting to me- I have no idea what to expect. I'm sure you will be just fine and you will have a wonderful birth and a beautiful baby that will be worth all the pain. The one thing that has helped any anxiety I've had so far is to "surrender" and know that I will not be in control of this.

I would do some deep relaxation exercises or fear release exercises if you know any. Those really helped me when I was pregnant last time. I was never scared of labor though just anxious for it to begin. I think those exercises really helped though. Just know that no matter how long it takes or how you feel in the moment you can't take it anymore it WILL end and you will be so proud of yourself for hanging in there. We are here for you hun!

I'm sorry Brittany! I guess fear isn't the word, I'm just nervous. I hate not knowing what is going to happen. I am hoping for a good experience and I'm sure everything will go smoothly. There's just those what-ifs stuck in my mind. My last experience, I labored naturally, but it was very different. I just laid there, trying to get through the pain until I could get the epidural. This time will be so different, especially since the way the do things at a birth center are different than a hospital. I won't get checked unless I really need it and once I'm in labor, they just stand back and wait for things to happen. I guess it is almost scary to think that I have to do this, it's up to me and my instincts to get through the labor. I'm excited too, I can't wait to know what it feels like to have control of my own labor and birth!

I know how you feel Andrea, I am almost 2 weeks out and I am starting to get nervouse and this is my 3rd. I know I will get through and it will probably be easier and quicker than the other two but that doesn't stop me from thinking about it too much. I am just trying to relax and not think about the fact that it will happen soon.

I hope your anxiety goes away Andrea once things get started for you. Sounds like you're giving birth in a wonderful place and will have positive support when you need it!

I'm with Brittany though, I don't know enough to be freaked out yet, I'm just excited to get started and see what it's like! I try not to think about the labor part honestly, I focus on daydreaming about finally having my son in my arms and seeing what he looks like, how he acts, all that good stuff. That helps a lot actually.

I feel the same way and I still have a ways to go. I think it's only natural to have fears but just know you'll make it through, the pain won't last forever, and you'll have the best reward to show for it! : )

fears are so normal!

You know- the most common thing for my clients to say after they have their baby is "I can't believe I did it!". So know that you're in good company, you CAN do it, and soon you'll be looking back- shocked, suprised and completely empowered with your strength as a woman, and as a birthing mother, saying "I can't believe I did it!"
